Poor border fencing infrastructure givin | AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN): Large scale illegal migration from Bangladesh over several years has been altering the demographic complexion of this State. It poses a grave threat both to the identity of the people of Tripura and to the national security. Successive Governments at the Centre and in the State have not adequately met this challenge. Day after day the illegal intrusion has taken a massive shape triggering panic in the state. Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam share an 1,880 km border with Bangladesh, while Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh share a 1,640 km unfenced border with Myanmar. Recently yet in other incident Twenty three Bangladeshi nationals, including nine women and three children have been arrested in Tripura for illegally entering the Indian Territory. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested 23 Bangladeshi nationals at Gandachara in northern Tripura. Later, a local court sent 20 of them to judicial custody and three children to a juvenile home.Although India is erecting a fence and putting up flood lighting along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram but is unable to check trans-border movement of militants and check border crimes. | 10-Apr-2016 |

'No Electricity' since 1 week leading ac | KAMALPUR, April 10 (TIWN): In the 22 year’s of left front regime in Tripura, Govt here has been always claimed high for bringing ‘rapid development’, however, an area under Dhalai District, has been left for a week without a single drop of water and suffering from power cut. Although locals has requested many times to the electrical dept. there but the officials there has no concern to solve the problem, as a result the locals are suffering from acute drinking water crisis. But the power dept. is in slumber, and fully silent over the event after repeated requests. The incident occurred at the Saikarbari area on the Halhali-Fatikroy NEC road at Kamalpur. Reportedly, due to the violent storm and thundering almost a week ago, the electricity transformer at Saikarbari was collapsed resulting power cut in the whole area of Old and New Saikarbari, Sanaiya Reang Para. But after 1 week of the power cut, the situation there has not been developed. Moreover, their water fetching pumps which were run by electricity also collapsed due to lack of power supply. The inhabitants therefore passing days without electricity and no drinking water. During the period, they several times knocked the officials of both the department. When Tripura is hit with massive power crisis, Manik Sarkar led Tripura government with all its efforts marked the supply of the 100MW power to Bangladesh with the formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina via video conferencing. The engineers and workers of the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited have worked round the clock to set up the 47 km transmission line from Western Tripura to southern Comilla in Bangladesh. Now Tripura suffering with poor electricity supply, neither State is earning revenue as OTPC getting the benefit, on top of that CPI-M Govt started 100MW power supply to Bangladesh without making Tripura a power surplus state. Talking to TIWN correspondent on Saturday, Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 Division, Karimganj said that at present work is going on to make the vehicles to at least cross the area. Expression distress over the situation, Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 Division, Karimganj stated that as it has not become possible for the construction agency to complete the renovation work before the monsoon season. The department is trying to make the road at least possible for the vehicles to run. Tripura BG railway service awaits green | AGARTALA, April 9 (TIWN): Long wait of the landlocked state Tripura to have direct broad-gauge rail connectivity with rest of India might start by end of April. Just after a green signal from railway ministry and Tripura will begin with its BG train service officially. Agartala found place in the railway map of India in the year 2008 when a metre gauge line was extended from Kumarghat, also in Tripura, to Agartala. This gave the city 407 km direct metre-gauge rail connectivity with Lumding in central Assam. A daily express train ran between Lumding and Agartala. Lumding is an important railway junction of Assam and falls under Guwahati-Dibrugarh broad-gauge rail section.Since October last year, metre-gauge train services between Lumding and Karimganj stations (distance 203 km) were stopped for undertaking ‘Mega Block’ of Lumding-Badarpur-Silchar section. Central govt financed project which costs atleast Rs. 18.18 crores has been set up at Apparel & Garment Making Centre at Bodhjungnagar, Agartala. However, it may be recalled that the same Union Minister along with CM in 2015, May 20 had laid the foundation stone of this Apparel & Garment Making Centre at Bodhjungnagar at Agartala with the aim to end unemployment in Tripura. But now question arises after the final inauguration---will CM be able to utilize the project? Due to Govt.’s apathy many industries are almost dying here and Govt yet to develop steady industrial growth.
