AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN): On Sunday at 11.30am, Eight (08) NLFT (BM) ultras with arms/ammunitions surrendered at BOP Sewarmapara, 7 Bn BSF. NLFT (BM) cadres surrendered in presence of Police Official of Tripura police and Coy Commander BSF near BP No.2298/MP, at fence gate of BSF BOP Sewarampara under PS Anandbazaar, Kanchanpur, Dist Tripura North. The whole episode was made possible after a long effort and constant motivation by the security agencies. The intelligence networks of security and intelligence agencies are constantly working on every movement of NLFT (BM) cadres and monitoring minutest developments in this regard, especially those related to lower cadres, who are not happy with the senior command of NLFT (BM). Presently NLFT (BM) outfit is facing scarcity of funds and the condition of lower cadres is miserable. The frequent joint operations of BD Army and BGB in Rangamati and Khagrachari districts and proposed establishment of new proposed BOPs of BGB in Chittagong Hill Tracts are also creating a huge problem to the outfit for free movement in BD.

Two banned separatist groups - NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force - have set up bases in Bangladesh and have been demanding secession of Tripura from India.

The surrender is a big jolt to the NLFT especially at a time when the organization is plagued with weak finances, disillusioned cadres and frequent rifts within itself.

The state policy of promoting surrenders is giving mislead cadre an opportunity to return to the main stream and it will surely spread peace and prosperity in every nook and corner of the state.

All surrendered are further sent to the custody of Tripura Police Agartala for further rehabilitation.

Terrorist outfits of Tripura have camps in Bangladesh, though they have no hideout in the state currently, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said earlier.

Sarkar, who holds the home portfolio, said during the past two years (2013 and 2014), 12 extremist-related incidents had occurred in the state in which four people were killed, two injured and 18 people abducted. Of the 18 kidnapped people, 16 were released by the rebels.

India is erecting a fence and putting up flood lighting along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram to check trans-border movement of militants and check border crimes.

"Of the 856-km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura, fencing could not be completed in a little over 115 km border due to numerous reasons, including objection raised by Bangladeshi border guards," Sarkar added.

Members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have taken shelter and arms training in clandestine camps in various parts of Bangladesh.

Both outfits, banned in 1997 by the union home ministry, have been demanding secession of Tripura from India. But as most ATTF cadres have surrendered, the group is almost non-existent now.

Tripura and Union home ministry officials held two rounds of discussions recently with the NLFT after the rebel group expressed its willingness to hold peace talks with the government.

Now after BSF, Indian Military intelligence agencies hard work, its responsibility of Manik Sakar Govt to see that these surrendred NLFT ultras properly rehabilated so that they donot go back to millitancy again.

Tripura's militancy is a by-product of Manik Sarkar led CPI-M Govt's failure to create mass employements in past 22 years, utter failure to establish industries in State, which in turn pushing unemployed youths into militancy.
