Special Branch nabbed two Bangladeshi ci | KAMALPUR, April 22 (TIWN): Once again Bangladeshi citizens were nabbed from Kamalpur sub-division and it’s too within the span of six months. Like the previous unearthing of misguided identity, this time also the Special Branch of police unearthed another saga of illegal infiltration here at Kamalpur, this morning. The Officers of the Special Branch with the help of local police nabbed two Bangladeshi citizens namely Fayaz Ahmed and Azadur Rahaman from the house of one Uttam Das of Harerkhola area. Both of the nabbed hailed from Moulavibazar district of Bangladesh. The officers also seized a Maruti WagonR vehicle bearing number ML-05-G-7571 from them. After the nabbing of those two Bangladeshi citizens, the Special Branch officers and CID team are continuing their interrogation. In another major blow, as per the scheduled date the case was placed before the Apex court on Thursday and the hearing to the case will begin from the month of June. However, the recent trend in the case has given a ray of hope for justice. Supreme Court has been hearing the case following the interlocutory application filed by the Tripura Govt. challenging the High Court’s verdict. According to the reports, in the year 2014 the Apex Court stayed the HC order to terminate the jobs of at least 10, 323 teachers and allowed them to continue their service until the final disposal of the case. Tripura to faces acute power crisis ; O | UDAIPUR/PALATANA, April 21 (TIWN): April end will bring acute power shortage for the people of Tripura as OTPC is scheduled to commence shut down in both units of Palatana from 23rd April, said a highly placed sources in OTPC. Already scheduled shut down in Unit-I commenced from 17th of April and it will continue upto 24th of this month. This shut down is said to be a scheduled one as there are some maintenance works to be done in Unti-I and it has to be done after some intervals, said an OTPC engineer over phone on Wednesday morning. He said that plant needs some maintenance after a long gap and this is exactly what is going on. On 24th April the maintenance work is likely to be completed. However, on 23rd and 24th of April complete shut down will be taken in both units- Unit-I and Unit- II. It is expected that by midnight of 24th April Unit-I will resume its generation . 'So much of money is being spent on MGNR | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 21 (TIWN): Whereas Tripura state govt.'s negligence is damaging the eco-system here due to unnecessary fill lakes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said money allocated for MGNREGA should be used for "water harvesting" to battle drought. Speaking at the 10th Civil Services Day awards ceremony, Modi also called for a "spirit of healthy competition" among district administrations to foster an atmosphere conducive for positive change. "Everyone wants to change life in the villages. So much of money is being spent on MGNREGA," the prime minister said, referring to the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act. "I know about the drought situation in the country. There is a shortage of water. But it is also true that a good monsoon is predicted. "Why can't we use the MGNREGA money to run a campaign for harvesting water in the months of April, May and June? Government to award 25,000 km of nationa | New Delhi, April 20 (TIWN): The government on Wednesday said it has set a target of 25,000 km of national highways to be built during 2016-17 -- up from 10,000 km in 2015-16. "Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has fixed a 2.5 times increase in the target for award and construction of national highways for the year 2016-17," the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement. "Encouraged by the good performance of his ministry in 2015-16, Gadkari expressed confidence that the pace of development that was established last year will result in even better outcomes during the current year." According to the ministry, a construction target of 15,000 km is set during the fiscal year under review from 6,000 km constructed last year. The ministry stated that out of the total length of national highways targeted for award, 15,000 km would fall under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).The remaining 10,000 km will be under the purview of the ministry and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL). However, with this a ray of hope has been emerged for Tripura's NH-44 which is presently in its worst shape. Central govt. also took responsibility for their maintenance. Border terrors hits North East : bomb ex | AGARTALA / IMPHAL, April 20 (TIWN): Three troopers were injured on Wednesday in Manipur when two powerful foreign-made bombs were detonated near Moreh, a town on the Myanmar border. The injured, belonging to the 11th Battalion of Assam Rifles, were evacuated to Imphal for treatment. Police and security forces did not rule out more insurgency related violence in the coming days. President Pranab Mukherjee is due to visit Manipur on April 23 for a state function commemorating the anniversary of the erstwhile Manipur kingdom's last battle for independence against the British on April 23, 1891. Security has been tightened along the border areas ahead of the visit. Tripura is under the threat of NLFT but in border areas Govt. is not taking any action with proper fencing.
