AGARTALA, April 9 (TIWN): After facing major jolts with the beginning of the monsoon, Transport Minister Manik Dey to Chief Engineer loudmouthly saying that, Govt is working on mobilizing the vehicles through the National Highway, however the reality is something different. Talking to TIWN correspondent on Saturday, Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 Division, Karimganj said that at present work is going on to make the vehicles to at least cross the area. Expression distress over the situation, Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 Division, Karimganj stated that as it has not become possible for the construction agency to complete the renovation work before the monsoon season. The department is trying to make the road at least possible for the vehicles to run. Besides, he also mentioned that the authority is trying to ensure that no vehicles should stuck at the National Highway. It is to be mentioned here that the condition of the national highway up to Lowerpowa from the southern side of Karimganj town is pathetic. The deplorable condition of the National Highway, especially on the above mentioned area. It has become misery for Tripura residents and travellers for prolonged several months.
However, the neglected highway has turned into a killer road risking several lives and vehicles stuck on the road.
With the deplorable condition of the National Highway the state had to face several problems including petrol crisis and Gas crisis.
It has been alleged that vehicles either dash against other vehicles or fall down into the gap when trying to avoid big potholes on the roads.
Few months back transportation through this road remained suspended for several days due to heavy rain that caused serious crisis of essential commodities in Tripura.
Although the suspension of National highway has become a regular issue but the suspension causes several problem.
Further, Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 Division, Karimganj mentioned that the renovation work would have completed before this monsoon but as due to some issue the earlier appointed contractor need has been changed and a new contractor has been appointed.
The new contractor started its work from the month of February so it has not become possible for the newly appointed contractor to complete the work before the monsoon hit the state, added Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 Division, Karimganj.
He further mentioned that the overall renovation work is possibly to complete by next monsoon.
