AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN) : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar although declared lately about the new technology in MGNREGA via which the workers would get their payments directly but central govt. took the decision after much vague reports receiving from states as Tripura. This decision has been taken after much complaints receiving from REGA workers for their unpaid wages.Following the notice from the Supreme Court, the Centre on Saturday released what it called the largest ever tranche of Rs 12,230 crore to states for implementing the rural employment guarantee scheme. The money is likely to be used mainly to pay wages to workers who are employed under the scheme. States has claimed that the funds released were not enough.
Union Rural Development Minister Birender Singh said in a statement that the fund release would take care of the pending wage liability of the states for the previous financial year (2015-16) and help states run the programme during the new financial year (2016-17) of the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
However, the ever unhappy with BJP Govt., Tripura CM Manik Sarkar said that the state govt. must have to keep the central under pressure so that the fund may release more.
Although Tripura sought for atleast Rs. 1,600/- crores from central but the central govt. didn’t bother to think about Tripura Govt.’s proposal and no extra facility is hired for Tripura this time. Moreover, in compared to the last year, the central has slashed down 1, 92, 36000 man days under the MGNREGA scheme for the Financial Year 2016-17
.MGNREGA workers seem happy in Tripura as there will be no-delaying in payment from now onwards, and labours are hopeful to have 100 working days. However, coming under pressure Manik Sarkar also asked to sort out the internet problems in state.
Moreover, sources said that the central govt. is not sure about how many days actually the MGNREGA workers are receiving as their working days and payments.
Reportedly, although the workers are to get atleast 100 working days, but in reality they are not getting half of the mandays in Tripura.
Observing all these, thde central govt. has taken decision to pay online to the MGNREGA workers.
Reportedly, the government will start paying wages the workers in 10 states directly into their bank accounts on a daily basis from this month.
However, being disturbed with the state’s corruption under RD Dept. central govt. was not releasing funds for states, against which Supreme Court said, "If you are not releasing the funds, then no one will like to work. States will say they have no funds, so they can't pay anyone for MGNREGA work. No state will make any commitment to the people”.
But as the central has released payment so now central govt. will keep sharp eyes over the fund utilization and how far the poor people are benefited by it.
It’s to be mentioned here that as central Govt. has slashed the MGNREGA funds for Tripura for the financial year 2016-17, along with the notice to fill up the gaps of all works(of 2015-16) before the 1st June, 2016, Chef Minsiter & RD Principal Secretary GSG Ayyangar called for urgent review meeting on Saturday at Pragna Bhawan, where no media person was allowed to stay for longer.
Whereas Tripura records of more than 83 days work under MGNREGA (As per Tripura RD Dept.’s record) but in last financial year till March 10, Tripura had completed only 36.4 percent works—central govt, thus warned the state to complete the work within June 1.
