Modi’s look-east policy in action: Minister of State for Textiles SK Gangwar inaugurates Apparel and Garment making Centre

AGARTALA, April 8 (TIWN): Adding another mile stone in the history of Tripura Textile, Union Minister of state for Textiles (Independent charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Friday inaugurated Apparel and Garment making Centre at Bodhjungnagar.

Adopted under the Central Scheme Make in India, Union Minister Gangwar inaugurated the first Apparel and Garment making centre in Tripura.

Addressing the programme, Union Minister for Textiles (Independent charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar stated that apparel industry is among the most rewarding regarding the generation of revenue and employment in any state.

Besides, he also mentioned that though the Apparel and Garment making Centre is a small yet a significant step towards development and employment generation step in the state.

He expressed confidence that the enabling policies and programmes initiated by the Government under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister will attract more such investments in the State and help it to emerge as a hub for apparel industry.

However, the initiatives are expected to lead in the direction of increase in the export of apparel goods.

According to the reports, the first ever Apparel and Garment making centre has been set up in Tripura’s Industrial sector at Bodhjungnagar with a cost of Rs. 18.18 crore.

It is to be mentioned here that the Union Minister of state for Textiles (Independent charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar has laid the foundation stone last year at Nazrul Kalakshetra.

During the programme of laying the foundation stone last year, Union Minister Gangwar has mentioned that this initiative has been taken by the Government of India to establish one modern apparel garment manufacturing centre in every state of NE with the objective of promoting entrepreneurship generating employment and creating skilled workforce by training the local population in the state.

Reportedly, it is expected that the project run entirely under the Ministry of Textiles under North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) is expected to generate employment of around 1200 people in the state.

Besides, around 300 sewing machines are expected to be provided for the working of the industry.

The purpose of this project is to develop entrepreneurship in apparel manufacturing among the local youth and to provide employment to the people locally in these centers.
