AGARTALA, April 9 (TIWN): After State Government faces major jolt over the slashed down 1, 92, 36000 man days under the MGNREGA scheme for the Financial Year 2016-17, question arises over the working procedure of the Rural Department of the State.
Rural Development Department on Saturday organized a review meeting to discuss about the initiatives in the MGNREGA. During the meeting, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Minister Naresh Jamatia, Principal Secretary of RD Department GSG Ayyangar, Chief Secretary YP Singh and others were also present.
Besides, District Magistrate of eight districts were also present.
With the sudden slash down in the man days under the MGNREGA scheme for the financial year 2016-17 has brought a huge embarrassment for the State.
It is to be mentioned here that despite of being an example for the other state of making excellent work for five consecutive work the slashed down in the man days has brought a major jolt to the State.
According to reports, Union Ministry for Rural Development in its letter mentioned that as Tripura has recorded only 36.4 percent work in the last financial year, the centre has slash down the fund under MGNREGA scheme.
It is to be mentioned it is alleged that although state government is spending money in REGA but is unable to show the expenses.
It is further alleged that the state government has embezzled a huge amount of fund from the REGA scheme.
However, it is to be mentioned here that Central Government has lessen a total of 1, 92, 36000 man days.
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), rechristened after Mahatma Gandhi, completed a decade this year since its launch at Bandlapalli village in Andhra Pradesh in 2006.
Now the question is how much the meeting will be fruitful in the coming days. With the days sudden decline in the number of man days for the state has brought a shock to the families who are dependent on the MGNREGA work.
