AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN): As expected, Tripura continues to reel under frequent loadsheddings, after the 100 MW power supply to Bangladesh deal was inaugurated on March 23. When Tripura is hit with massive power crisis, Manik Sarkar led Tripura government with all its efforts marked the supply of the 100MW power to Bangladesh with the formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina via video conferencing. The engineers and workers of the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited have worked round the clock to set up the 47 km transmission line from Western Tripura to southern Comilla in Bangladesh. Now Tripura suffering with poor electricity supply, neither State is earning revenue as OTPC getting the benefit, on top of that CPI-M Govt started 100MW power supply to Bangladesh without making Tripura a power surplus state. India currently supplies 500 MW to Dhaka through the West Bengal border. It is to be mentioned here that, India has inked an agreement to supply 100 MW of electricity to Bangladesh from the gas-based palatana power plant from Tripura at ₹5.50 a unit more or less identical to the weighted average generation tariff of 6.50 in Bangladesh.
Despite of several tall claims by the ministerial authority of the state saying that with the commencement of Palatana and with the extension hand of the other power plants of the state, Tripura will be a load-shedding Free State, till day the civilians are facing unscheduled load shedding frequently.
Where the State Government claims to make the capital a smart city on the other hand they fails to provide the basic necessity that is a load shedding Free State. The people of the capital where has to face prolonged hours of load shedding, in the interior parts there are people who are continuing their life in dark for several days.
Unscheduled load-shedding running into hours has landed the people across the State in dire straits.
It is to be mentioned here that the locals of Kamalasagar assembly constituency are deprived of power connection for past 15 days turning life miserable with the onset of the summer season.
Allegedly, Tripura is facing serious load-shedding problem due to drop of supply from within state. Life and business has been largely affected due to power cuts enforced for hours every day.
Load shedding in Tripura has made life miserable as Tripura’s own power generation is down to its half of total capacity during past few days. Most areas of the city are facing load shedding of at least one to two hours per day. As a result the life of people has become miserable here in the State.
