KAMALPUR, April 9 (TIWN): The youths of Salema not only came under the grip of liquor but the grip of gambling also tightened. Like the illegal sellers of liquors, the bookies of gambling also run their business keeping friendly enmity with the police.
The scenario became evident after the publication of dry day’s policing saga in TIWN. Many local people alleged that, the inactivity of police gave the anti-socials a free hand to do at their will. And utilizing the opportunity, some youths who used to act as bookies in the game controlled from Halhali area, remained active throughout the day.
It might be mentioned here that, the role of Kamalpur police also remained the same regarding the tir gambling. Partha of Dashamighat, Parimal of Bus Terminus adjacent shop, a Youth Congress leader turned CPI-M activist and many others continued their gambling at Kamalpur. And police remained deaf, dumb and blind with some magic charm. Now, Salema police station also caught the same route of pocketing profit.
