Central medical team to table report on | AGARTALA, June 11 (TIWN): A 4 members’ team sent by the Union Ministry of Health and family Welfare in Tripura to probe the death of three minors after they were administered Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccine. They would submit a report to the State Health Department on Thursday, said the official.Talking to TIWN on Wednesday State Programme Officer (Immunisation) M. S. Chowdhury said, “The central team arrived here in Tripura on Sunday and have been conduction their investigation at different parts of the state.†Adding, he said that the team would leave the state on Thursday if their investigation ends by Thursday.At present the team from centre is conducting investigation at Khowai District and Agartala, official said.He also said that the team is expected to submit the investigation report to the State Health and Family Welfare Department on June 11 prior leaving the state. The Union Ministry has sent this team here in Tripura to take the stock of the situation of the deaths of at least three children after they were administered with JE vaccination. A total of three children from three different districts died after being administered with anti-Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination, as per government official record. High Court fear drives Manik's Administr | AGARTALA, June 10 (TIWN): The depositors of various Chit fund agencies from Wednesday started submitting their documents of Chit Fund deposits at the office of SP West and A.D. Nagar Police ground. Earlier, a notification was issued from the office of the SP West to the depositors who were betrayed by the Chit Fund agencies. The chit fund groups launched their business in various states by obtaining license from various bodies of the Central Government and they identified themselves as the micro-finance groups. Demands have been raised from the part of depositors in Tripura. But, the government was ignoring the issue, as a consequence of which the future of the depositors is uncertain. Earlier lackluster law enforcement machineries acted due to High Court's pressure, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to hear the plea of the depositors of the various Chit Fund organizations. After trying to close eyes on massive chit fund scams, State Government was forced to act after orders from the High Court, and formed a team to investigate the case in proper manner. SIT team comprised of Senior inspectors namely Kamalendu Bhowmik, Samir Roy, Manik Debnath, Nityananda Sarkar , Surasen Tripura respectively. Earlier,High Court of Tripura instructed the State Government to form a full-fledged team to investigate all the matters related to Chit fund issues. High Court Division bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice U.B. Saha had passed the order. Immediately a special investigation team (SIT) was formed headed by Director General of Police and Chief Secretary.It is also known that the division bench said that as it is not possible to investigate the whole matter fully by the CBI, so an alternative procedure should be adopted. India admits hitting rebels inside Myanm | AGARTALA / GUWAHATI, June 10 (TIWN): India has admitted its para commandos crossed the border into Myanmar to attack Naga and Manipuri rebel bases on Tuesday.The attacks were launched between 3am and 4am very early at dawn on Tuesday. Indian ambassdor to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhayay later informed the Myanmar foreign ministry of the 'hot pursuit attacks' after offices opened in Myanmar -- but by then the commandos were safely back in Indian territory. Indian junior information minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told TV channels late on Tuesday night that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally ordered the 'hot pursuit operations' planed by the Indian army." Be it Yemen or Iraq or anywhere else, attacks on Indians anywhere would be unacceptable. We need to send a message to our neighbours who harbour terrorists." Indian military officials say the commandos from the 21st Para regiment crossed the border at two -- possibly three points -- for 'surgical strikes' at rebel bases.Not less than 300 to 400 commandos were involved, it is reliably learnt. Indian military sources say 'significant casualties' was inflicted on the rebels. Some official say the rebels lost between 30 to 50 fighters in the surprise raids. Uncertainty hovers: No green light for T | AGARTALA, June 10 (TIWN): The proposed India-Bangladesh railway project to connect the North East with Bangladesh is yet to take off, as Modi-Hasina gave no green signal even after the passage of at least five years. However, uncertainty droops all over with the state transport officials here and thus keeps no hope on commencement of the work. The Rs. 575-crore project was finalized in January 2010 when Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met her counterpart Manmohan Singh during her visit to New Delhi. The 22-pact of agreements inked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Sheikh Hasina on June 6, consisted of several bi-lateral ties with Bangladesh but had excluded the Indo-Bangladesh railway project work connection between the Northeast India with the Bangladesh. With an aim to connect Agartala with West Bengal, PM Modi for the first time, used the Bangladesh territory as a place for the flagging off direct bus service between Tripura-West Bengal via Dhaka. Besides, earlier visiting the state Ministry of Railway Board Executive Director Vivek Kumar indicated, “The Central Government is yet to provide required funds for the project.†However, the project work would be delayed and has gotten no green signal from the Ministry yet today, after the passage of five years since the project work was sanctioned. Tripura Government had recently approached the railway ministry again to allocate funds. "No fund has been allocated in the railway budget for 2015-16, even for land acquisition. The cost of the project was earlier estimated at Rs.271 crore. In addition, Rs.302 crore is needed to acquire around 98 acres of land in India for laying the tracks. Vivek Kumar said, "The work to lay the 15-km railway track to link Agartala with Bangladesh's southeastern Akhaura city is yet to start although the two countries are very serious to execute the plan.†| 10-Jun-2015 |

DoPT list marks 21 Tripura IAS officer | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, June 10 (TIWN): As per the latest DoPT (department of personnel and training) report, 21 Tripura IAS officers failed to declare their immovable assets within specified deadline of 31st January,2015. The All-India Service (Conduct) rules, 1968, require officers to disclose these details when they join service and submit an annual property statement—listing properties and shares. Officers who do not submit property returns in time will be “denied vigilance clearance†and will not be considered for promotion and empanelment (put on a short-list) for senior posts in Government of India, said a June 2012 home-ministry circular. Property declarations bring transparency, improves public confidence in the administration and ensures integrity of subordinates, said many officers. High Court asks Tripura Govt. to allot u | AGARTALA, June 10 (TIWN): On yet another order for the Tripura auto-rickshaw drivers, the Tripura High Court (HC) recently asked the Tripura Left front Government to allot badges and separate uniform for the auto-drivers. The court had also asked to frame point to point fares for the passengers. However the petition was filed in the court against the State Transport Department and State Govt. following the negligence role of the State Govt. in regard of framing a point to point rate chart.It is worthy to mention here that following the early order from the court the State Govt. had decided to frame a rate chart and later it was implemented on every three wheeler, but the State Transport Department had failed to install a point to point fare chart, following which the auto-drivers managed to charge high fare from the passengers.Resentment is brewing among the passengers travel from different parts of the capital city Agartala as most of the auto-rickshaw drivers continuing to charge high fares from passengers due to the negligence role of the state Govt., despite the fare chart had been fixed at every three wheelers, the unruly auto drivers are allegedly charging high fares.Earlier the Tripura HC via its order restricted to carry maximum passengers in three wheelers, but despite that a section of unruly drivers are used to carry more than three passengers and as a result the suffering prevails among the passengers. | 10-Jun-2015 |

Gas pipeline leakage scares people at Na | AGARTALA, June 9 (TIWN): Leakage from a gas pipe of PNG (Piped line Natural Gas) on Monday morning at Nagerjala near the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Statue triggered panic in the area among the public.Locals said that they were getting the pungent smell of cooking gas which had invaded in to area for more than an hour, but they are not able to identify, from where the gas was leaking in the area.Later identifying the leakage from a gas pipe of PNG (Piped line Natural Gas) near the statue, the localities immediately informed the head office of TNGCL (Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited) which is solely responsible for the supply of piped natural gas to the domestic, commercial & industrial consumers in and around Agartala.Getting alarm the officials of TNGCL, along with the police personnel of A.D. Police Station, fire Service crew from Tripura Fire Service reached the spot immediately and brought the area under barricade and evacuated the crowd for the safety of the people.Leakage of gas from a pipeline into a living area or any other area where the gas should not be present in open is dangerous, because natural gas may get explode when exposed to flame or spark and this situation can turn out to be very hazardous for the general public.Following the incident huge crowd gathered Nagerjala. Gas exploration intensifies in Tripura, | AGARTALA, June 9 (TIWN): The state-owned oil giant Oil & Natural Gas Company (ONGC) here in Tripura heading towards to intensify gas exploration and restore the existing its old gas wells with its improved and most advanced technology to create a recoverable reserve of gas for at least 20 years. ONGC on yet another ambitious plan is eyeing forward to conduct hydro fracturing at Tripura Baramura. Talking to TIWN on Tuesday from New Delhi,ONGC Director Onshore V. P. Mahawar said, “We are now planning to carry the hydro fracturing at Tripura Baramura to ensure a huge recoverable reserve of gas.†Adding he said, “The hydro-fracturing had been conducted on three old wells at Khubal and ONGC is looking forward to drill another two well at Manu area to ensure gas reserves.†Mahawar said, “ONGC would have to ensure availability of gas for the plant for at least 15 years.â€To develop the productivity, ONGC has brought most advanced hydro-fracturing technology, used for breaking the sand layer deep inside the surface of the earth to facilitate better flow of gas.Earlier state power minister Manik Dey talking to the reporters in regard of power crisis said that Baramura power plant is suffering from a crisis of gas from ONGC as a result the power generation at the plant has come down. Talking to TIWN on Monday evening TSECL Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) S K Roy said, “At present Palatana OTPC Unit I is undergoing shutdown whereas another Unit-II is generating power.†It is worthy to mention here that earlier this year on the month of May 22 Roy said, “As both the units of Palatana OTPC are unable to run at a time, the power production is less, because when the Unit I starts its generation another has to be shut downâ€. State Govt high officials in a catch-22 situtaion as Tripura experiencing frequent load-sheddings but Chief Minister Manik Sarkar already promised to sell 100MW power from OTPC Palatana to Bangladesh. Neer Mahal belongs to Royal Family : Civ | AGARTALA, June 9 (TIWN): The Civil Court on Monday on its historical verdict announced Tripura Lake palace Neer Mahal situated at Rudrasagar Lake to be in the name of royal family from now and has asked the state govt. here to hand over its tourist place of the palace to the royal family according to the 1949 Merger Act. Pointing out the negligence role of the Tripura Left front government over the maintenance of the Palace the court on Monday announced its historical verdict in favour of royal family. According to the 1949 Merger Act, Neer Mahal is the personal property of the Royal family. However, the State Government of Tripura seized it by claiming the responsibility of its renovation. The palace is the largest of its kind in India and the only one in Eastern India. There are only two water palaces in India another one is the Jal Mahal in Rajasthan.It served as the summer resort of the erstwhile King Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur and still draws lakhss of visitors every year despite the poor condition of the lake which has become shallow because of heavy deposit of silt. Court verdict revives the hope that royal family would restore NeerMahal to its earlier glory. Monarchak to switch on Gas turbine from | AGARTALA, June 9 (TIWN): After a minor shut down the Monarchak power plant installed in Tripura Sonamura Sub Division has been readied to switch its gas turbine from June 11, said Monarchak Project Head S R Biswas on Monday. Talking to TIWN on Monday evening he said, “Recently we have gone for a shutdown of the gas turbine as there were some pending works for plant, but from June 11 we have planned to open the gas turbine which was supposed to generate 65 MW.†But, some way or other the Monarchak power plant is undergoing some minor loss as the state govt. has been learnt to be reluctant buying power from the plant as the power cost is very high as compared to other plants including Palatana OTPC.A high level meeting was held recently taking up the issue of the power cost of the plant. The meeting was attended by TSECL CMD S K Ray and other officials chaired by Union Ministry of power.Both TSECL and NEEPCO Monarchak has been now looking forward to resolve the issue as NEEPCO had already spent a hefty amount to install the plant at Monarchak under Sonamura Sub Division.According to TSECL sources, it could not buy power at Rs. 4 per unit unit when the same power is available at Rs. 2.25/ 2.50.Besides, The NEEPCO Monarchak Power plant is currently generating 20 to 40 MW of power depending on the demand by the consumers. | 08-Jun-2015 |
