AGARTALA, June 9 (TIWN): For upliftment of the socio economic conditions of the Minority students of the State, Pre-Metric Scholarship distribution program for minorities students and distribution of money cheque to minority families under income generating scheme for the year 2015-16 was held at Nazrul Kalakshetra on Tuesday.
Addressing the program at the Nazrul Kalakshetra, Director of Minorities welfare department S.M.Das stated that this scholarship at pre-metric level will encourage parents from minority communities to send their school going children to school, lighten their financial burden on school education and sustain their efforts to support their children to complete school education. The scheme will form the foundation for their educational attainment and provide a level for playing field in the competitive employment arena. Empowerment through education, which is one of the objectives of this scheme, has the potential to lead to upliftment of the socio economic conditions of the minority communities, said Das at Nazrul Kalakshetra.
In the program, a total of 669 students, fulfilling the eligibility criteria of 50 percent and above marks from Class 1 to class 10 with an yearly family income of Rs.1,00,000 was disbursed with an amount of Rs. 1,500 each; as a part of Pre-Metric scholarship for the year 2014-15.
Similarly, Pre-metric scholarship for the students under the year 2015-16 were disbursed with an amount of Rs.1000 among the students of Class 1 to class 5 and the students of class 6 to class 10 were disbursed with an amount Rs.5000 each, fulfilling the eligibility criteria of 50 percent and above marks from with an yearly family income of Rs.1, 00,000.
A total of 95 families were distributed with a money cheque of Rs.10, 000 each under the Income Generating scheme for the year 2015-16.
However, Chairman Minority Corporation Moh.Abdul Matin, O.S.D. Madrasa Cell Moh. Salim, Joint Director Minorities Welfare Department Moh. Muslem Uddin Ahamed along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.
