They have assured us of taking firm action against the Indian insurgents operating from Bangladesh," Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman Sushil Kumar Singh told media.A four-day inspector general-level Border Coordination Conference between the BSF and the BGB concluded at Shillong , the BSF frontier headquarters on Thursday.BSF Inspector General Sudesh Kumar, who led the Indian side, handed the fresh list to the BGB delegation led by Brig. Gen. Md. Latiful Haider."The list has been prepared based on specific intelligence inputs about the location of the insurgent camps in Bangladesh. The Tripura High Court on Friday held that the Agartala Municipal Corporations (AMC) does not have any power to levy tax on the mobile tower companies here in Agartala under the Telegraph Act. Tripura asks AAI to kick off Rs 426 cro | AGARTALA, June 12 (TIWN): With the Airport Authority of India (AAI) following a yearlong persuasion of the Tripura Left front government has agreed to kick off the construction work of the Agartala airport expansion. The state government had recently asked the AAI to start the work by the month of December this year without any further delay which has brought anarchy among the displaced locals at Agartala airport area. AAI is expected to kick off the construction spending Rs. 426 crore.In a move that will aid influx of foreign visitors to the North East and make flying to numerous destinations easier, the Agartala airport is going to get a major overhaul. The Chairman of AAI R K Srivastava during his visit to the state previous month said that Agartala airport is upgrading to international standards soon.Whereas, the transport department officials of the state along with Minister Manik Dey expressing displeasure over the delay of the work urged the AAI to undertake the project work without any further delay.Tripura Government has been vocal about boosting flight operations between adjoining nations and the north eastern states. Tripura High Court takes suo moto case o | AGARTALA, June 12 (TIWN): Upset with the State Govt.’s inability to put a curb on the private tuition by school teachers, the Tripura High Court on Thursday took a suo moto case on the matter and gave some directions to the state Govt. led by Manik Sarkar. The Tripura High Court on Thursday urged the state Govt.’s Department of Education and the Dept. of Higher Education to submit the details of the measures taken by them so far to stop private tuition by the school teachers both of Govt. schools and privately run schools of the state. The High Court set July 31, 2015 as the deadline for submitting the necessary orders of the state departments discouraging the practice of private tuition both by the teachers of Govt. run schools and private schools. Central expert team leave state, conduct | AGARTALA, June 12 (TIWN): The 3 member central expert team, who arrived Tripura to probe the JE (Japanese Encephalitis) vaccination deaths, had left for Delhi on Thursday. Enquiry had already been conducted by team , final report to be tabled to the state government soon, said health official on Thursday evening at Secretariat. However, JE vaccination in the state has been suspended until the final report of the team is placed before the government. Talking to TIWN on Thursday evening, a state health official said that after conducting enquiry it has been found that children deaths are not related to the vaccination as they were suffering from illness prior to the vaccine was administered. Health Dept sources said that they would examine the report prepared on the basis of their observation in New Delhi and likely to send their final report to the Tripura Government at the earliest. The team on June 10 submitted a report based on their observation to Health Secretary M. Nagaraju and held a discussion at Civil secretariat. However, the expert team of Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) North Zone after conducting the inquiry, had requested the state health officials to keep suspending the vaccination programme until they issue a green signal to it. A total of three school children died after being administered by JE vaccination, as per the government official record. They are from three different districts of the state. The West Bengal Government is already ready with their two Volvo buses to ply in the vice versa route. According to the highly placed sources of the State Transport Department, informed that Secretary for transport, Samarjit Bhowmik recently called Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) for an urgent meeting taking up the issue of buying bus for plying Agartala-Kolkata via Dhaka route.The source confirmed that very soon at least two buses would arrive to Agartala, which were earlier proposed for by the Tripura Government. Besides, the Transport Dept. has been planning to facilitate the passengers with better bus services. Indo-Bangla 4th border haat, Tripuraâ | AGARTALA, June 11 (TIWN): Tripura’s 2nd and the Indo-Bangla 4th border ‘haat’ or market along Indo-Bangla opened on Thursday to boost the local trade and people across borders. The border trade between India and Bangladesh has come as a boon to people in land-locked Tripura, who were at a disadvantageous position compared to people in other states, when it comes to availability of goods.With a joint effort of both India and Bangladesh, the fourth border haat kicked off on Thursday along Tripura’s Kamalasagar, under Sepahijala District and Bangladesh Tarapur bordering area. This is the second border haat in Tripura. The haat or the market was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Nardenra Modi and his counterpart Sheikh Hasina via video conferencing on June 6 from Dhaka. However on Thursday the main programme of opening the haat was organised under the initiative of Tripura’s Sepahijala District Administration and Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria District administration. Addressing the programme today, DM (Sepahijala) P K Chakraborty said trading at the 'haat' would take place once a week among the people living within 5 km radius of the border who would sell and buy locally produced goods and crops. No local taxes would be imposed on the items to be sold in the haats and currencies of both the countries would be allowed to run the trading. The haat would be operational from the Indian Standard Time (IST) of 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Adding Chakraborty said a total of 25 traders were listed from Tripura who would be allowed to trade with Bangladesh at haat. Whereas around 1, 010 buyers were identified. Bangladesh may provide river transit to | AGARTALA / DHAKA, June 11 (TIWN): A joint committee comprising officials of both countries would be formed soon to make recommendations for the fees and charges within two months, said shipping ministry officials.Once those are settled, the facility might be given to India on a limited scale, they said.“It will require large-scale dredging of river routes if India is to be provided with full-fledged river transit facility,†said one of the officials on condition of anonymity.At a meeting in New Delhi in April, shipping ministry officials of the two countries agreed to make mutually beneficial arrangements for the use of waterways, roads and railways for bilateral trade and passage of goods between two places in one country through the territory of the other.India would pay Bangladesh transit fees, while Nepal and Bhutan would pay fees to both Bangladesh and India, said the officials of Bangladesh shipping ministry.At present, India pays Bangladesh Tk 10 crore annually for using the latter's waterways. River transport via Tripura will boost Indo-Bangla economy in long run. Under the new arrangement, fees and charges would be set in accordance with the policy of the World Trade Organisation. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been drafted under the Extension of Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT) signed during the recent Dhaka visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Dhaka, however, will have to sign a separate deal with Delhi for using India's river routes to move goods to Nepal and Bhutan. | 11-Jun-2015 |
Manik’s non-inclusion in Banglade | AGARTALA, June 11 (TIWN): Historic Agartala–Dhaka-Kolkata bus service flagged off jointly by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina ,West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on June 6, last is facing uncertainty as the state transport authority TRTC is unable to procure the required buses for the route till date. According to TRTC sources, the corporation has pplaced orders for four luxury buses to the vehicle company TATA Motors, but the latter has not supplied the same to the TRTC so far (payment issues) delaying the bus service in the Agartala- Dhaka-Kolkata route.The sorry state of the TRTC was exposed during the trial run of the TRTC bus in the Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata route on June 1 last, when the state owned transport corporation somehow managed an old bus of the corporation for the trial run after putting some colour on its body.The bus reportedly halted in many places during its journey due to technical slugs and returned to Agartala somehow.According to some gossips that is doing the round in the capital’s various corners, the bus service is being delayed intentionally by the TRTC after the state Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was left out of the list of the dignitaries to flag off the bus service by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladeshi premier Sheikh Hasina. | 10-Jun-2015 |
