Tripura Governor meets CM, Cabinet MInis | AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): Taking up the issues related to the ongoing projects across the state here, the Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy on Thursday has met the Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his cabinet ministers at Agartala Pragna Bhawan. However, on the first ever meeting with the Governor Tathagata Roy, the state government sought his helping hand towards taking up the demands of the state with the Central Government.Taking up the issues including Indo-Bangla rail connectivity, air-connectivity, road-connectivity, power status, restoration of Kamalpur and Kailasahar airports and other several issues, Governor had met the cabinet ministers on Thursday.During the meeting held at Pragna Bhawan, Governor Tathagata Roy sought the status report of present power production from both Palatana OTPC and Rukhia. Tripura gets 30 city buses amongst 100 u | AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): At last after several allegations raised against the state urban development department over the irregularities of sanctioned funds under the scrapped centrally sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the State Govt managed to get at least 30 city buses amongst the 100 as ordered by the Tripura High Court earlier. Talking to TIWN on Thursday, a high-level official of the urban department informed that recently 30 to 35 buses have reached here in Agartala under the NJJURM scheme and the rest would be arriving here soon. The official said that at present the officials of the department alongwith the Transport Secretary are finalizing the routes and later the tenders would be floated. With an aim to facilitate the city passengers the buses were procured here, said the official. Under the ambit of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the Tripura High Court directed the Government to purchase 100 more buses. The State Transport Department assured the Court about running those buses along the city and around starting from June-July. 92,146 voters to caste vote for Tripura | AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): A total of 92,146 voters would caste vote for the by-elections in two assembly constituencies here in Tripura Pratapgarh and Surma. Amongst the 92, 146 voters, 50004 are from Pratapgarh constituency and 42142 voters are from Surma constituency, said State Election Commissioner S K Rakesh on Wednesday.Tripura to go for by-elections poll on June 27 at 62 polling stations at Pratapgarh constituency and another 54 polling stations at Surma constituency. Around 600 polling personals would be engaged to the election procedure, Rakesh told to reporters here at the civil secretariat on Wednesday.The elections for the two constituencies on June 27 would start from 8:00 AM and would continue till 5:00 PM and the counting of votes would be held on June 30. The commission has decided that the voter’s identification shall be mandatory in the aforementioned by-elections at the time of poll. Electoral photo identity card (EPIC) shall be the main document of identification of a voter. However, later talking to the reporters S K Rakesh informed that the central paramilitary forces would be deployed inside the polling stations on June 27 and the TSRs along with the state police would be deployed outside the polling stations. Construction work for Tripura's 1st flyo | AGARTALA, June 24 (TIWN): The construction work of the first ever flyover in Tripura capital is currently underway and is expected to kick off in a full-fledged manner by this week. Getting a green signal from the state Public Work Department (PWD) the departmental engineers along with the entrusted Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) have taken up the construction work for building Rs. 250 crore flyover linking AD Nagar police lines with Fire Brigade Square in the city's busiest stretch of road. Tripura, which is one of the most peaceful states in the Northeast, has one of the fastest growing economies in the region. To contain the increasing number of vehicles, populations, offices and others the Left front govt. has taken up an ambitious project of building flyover at the Agartala city. The 2.2 kms flyover, which is expected to ease the growing traffic congestion, will be completed in 30 months time. The estimated cost of the building the flyover is Rs 250 crore.The construction work for building the flyover had kicked off at Agartala Battala with the engineers of the state government here along with the Nagarjuna Construction Company agency staffs actively engaged to the work which is expected to be completed by 30 months. Flyover will start from Drop Gate (Fire Service office), is scheduled to touch Fire Brigade Chowmuhani via Battala. A subway of the fly over will be constructed upto Melarmath. BSF-BGB cross-border shooting on Tuesday | KHOWAI, June 24 (TIWN): Tuesday night cross-border shooting has triggered huge panic among villagers along border area at India-Bangladesh border fencing area at Gumsing Basti, Champaknagar, under Khowai Sub-division. According to the sources it was reported that at around 11.15 PM Indian 83-Bn BSF suspected that some Bangladeshi smugglers were trying to infiltrate to India from Bangladesh by cutting down the wire fencing. Identifying that infiltrators were smugglers, immediately red alert was issued to all the Border Security Posts and BSF Jawans took control over the situation, successfully shot dead one Bangladeshi smuggler. Dead Bangladeshi infiltrator has not been identified yet, but BSF Jawans stepped up vigil on this part of the border. This firing lasted for at least 10 minutes across border by smugglers, which was returned by BSF Jawans. The place where the Bangladeshi had been killed by BSF Jawans has been identified as Srimangal Dist. The border area is now under strict observations by BSF Jawans, at the International Pillar bearing No. 1959/10-s.It was totally dark when the incident took place at night 11.15 pm, thus many informations are yet to be collected for follow-up investigations by authorities of India and Bangladesh. | 24-Jun-2015 |

Roy was accompanied by State Public Work Department (PWD) Engineer-in-chief Sunil Bhowmik and other officials.During the visit Bhowmik said, “The new Raj Bhawan would be readied by the month of December this year.†Governor Tathagata Roy inspecting the ongoing construction work on Tuesday at around 11:00 AM subjected some suggestions to the officials engaged to the Rs. 30 crore project work.
