On the day of Dashami people invites their relatives and friends to join meal and to celebrate the day with enjoyment, the steep price hike has become a headache for the people. However, according to the Bengali tradition during the celebration of Vijayadasami most of the families prefer fish dishes in their meal and the price hike has hard to manage their pocket or to deduct the list of commodities from the part of celebration. The price hike has left us no option rather than to deduct some of the items which we would have taken as a part of Puja celebration, said a local. Durga Puja ends with idol immersion, tea | AGARTALA, Oct 22 (TIWN): With tears in eyes, scrambling to touch her feet one last time, devotees across state bade goodbye to their beloved mother goddess Durga as her idols were immersed at Dashamighat on Vijaya Dashami on Thursday.The banks of Howrah at Dashamighat wore a festive look despite the slight drizzle, as puja organisers came in colourful processions to the accompaniment of drums to immerse idols of the goddess and her four children - Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Kartik.Several huddled in streets to watch the processions.Hundreds of devotees, including the young, joined hands in gently lowering the idols into the river. People take chopper ride with eagerness | AGARTALA, Oct 22 (TIWN): The zeal and enthusiasm for Durga puja can be openly seen among the people with most of the people eagerly taking the chopper ride on Wednesday morning to enjoy a wide glimpse of Durga puja celebration at Agartala. Transport department from Tuesday has launched a helicopter service to give an extra ordinary facility to the people to take an aerial view of the celebrations in and around this state capital. The service, being operated by state-owned Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC), will continue till Friday, the last day of the festivities. The fare for the 25-minute chopper ride is Rs.1400 for adults and Rs.1200 for children below 12 years. It is to be mentioned here that for last few years TRTC was conducting chopper service during Durga puja for puja revelers. The flight is an eight-seater chopper of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (PHHL). The fare is subsidised by the central and state government. Pawan Hans, India's lone state-owned helicopter company, has been operating for the past 11 years in the interior areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, with the union home ministry subsidising fares by up to 75 percent. State observes peaceful Durga Puja | AGARTALA, October 22 (TIWN): Credit for the peaceful celebration of the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja goes to the State administration for taking the decision of keeping the liquor shop close. Reportedly, till now Durga Puja celebration has been observed peacefully. With an aim maintain the Law and order in the State, West Tripura District Magistrate has ordered to keep the liquor shops close from October 20 to 22. Though some people are buying liquor illegally but the strict vigilance of the police and traffic personals are not allowing any kind of untoward incident. Police and traffic personals are keeping strict vigilance over every major area and the teenagers who are riding bikes and driving vehicles. Under the Tripura Excise Act 174 a (e) it has been mentioned that all liquor licenses shall close their premises. Therefore, in order to ensure peace during the puja tenure, an order has been circulated that all the liquor shops will remains close.Reportedly, there are some traders who are continuing their business in dark and earning huge amount of money. Kumari Puja marks Durga Ashtami in Tripu | AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): After night-long pandal hopping, Tripura on Wednesday woke up to the chants of mantras as thousands of devotees from across the country and abroad converged at the Kumari Puja (worship of a pre-pubertine girl). The day marked Maha Ashtami -- eighth day of the lunar calendar and third day of the Durga puja festivities -- when weapons of goddess Durga are worshipped (Astra Puja) and hymns are chanted in praise of the deity. According to Hindu mythology, on the eighth day the fierce form of the mother goddess -- Bhadrakali -- was invoked to slay Mahishasura, the buffalo demon king, while various other gods bestowed their blessings and weapons to the incarnated form of the mother goddess to battle the demon king. The rituals began in the morning with Kumari Puja where girls are worshipped as personifications of the goddess. According to Hindu mythology, Kumari Puja establishes the importance of women. Devotees throng to Durga Bari on the occ | AGARTALA, Oct 20 (TIWN): Pomp and pageantry and devotion marked the occasion of Maha Saptami at Durga Bari temple as hundreds of people decked up in their best and gathered at the temple to offer prayers to Goddess Durga on Tuesday morning. Since early morning, people have been thronging at Durga Bari temple where idol of the goddess Durga with two hands at her back and her four children are being worshiped amid much community fanfare. People danced, whistled, mingled with friends and family in an infectious all-embracing spirit. The religious rituals of Maha Saptami (seventh day on the lunar calendar) began with the bathing of a banana plant in ponds. The plant is treated like a bride, wrapped in a new sari and placed next to the idol of Lord Ganesh, son of Goddess Durga. This plant is called Kalabau' (banana plant bride) - considered the wife of Ganesha. The ritual is called 'Nabapatrika snan-o-sthapan' and many believe this practise is traced to the agrarian society of east India. The Nabapatrika (new leaves) consists of nine banana leaves. After the ritual, special worship for Saptami started and devotees on an empty stomach thronged pandals to pray to Durga and offered her 'pushpanjali' (floral offerings to the goddess). Tripura celebrates over 2500 Durga Pujas | AGARTALA, Oct 20 (TIWN): Altogether 257 Durga Puja will be celebrated in Agartala City, this year. A total of 730 Puja Pandals will be observed this year in the West District of Tripura, according to the report of Tripura Police. Detailing about the total number of Puja pandal, out of 730 pandals, 511 will be observed in the urban areas of the West District. Besides, 219 pandals are in the Rural Areas of the District. However, in the state about 2500 Puja are likely to be celebrated this year. Huge crowd has been observed from the day of Panchami, people all across the state geared up to visit the Puja pandals which are decorated theme based to attract the crowd.Traffic Department where decided to put No-entry on the various crowded roads on October 20 onwards had to put the No-Entry board from October 18 last in many areas. Altogether 2000 police personals are all set to keep strict vigilance to ensure peaceful observance during the Puja tenure.In order to ensure a peaceful Puja celebration, Tripura police station stepped up in full-swing for the surveillance of the areas all across the state. Besides, bomb squads with sniffer dog will be patrolling all across the capital as a part of surveillance. Silchar – Lumding train service l | AGARTALA, Oct 20 (TIWN): It’s a matter of time that passenger train likely to start between Silchar – Lumding. Railway is planning to start the service before Diwali festival in November. This will pave the way of starting passenger trains between Silchar – Agartala without any hurdles.According to expert, until and unless train service starts between Silchar – Lumding than Agartala cannot make a place in railway map of the country. Hence it is important to start train service between Silchar – Lumding.A senior NF railway official requesting anonymity informed there is no reason why passenger train will not start in the above rail route . He informed series of dialogue was held with various civil society organization at regional office at Badharpur regarding list of trains to be introduced in the route. The meeting was attended by several organizations representing all walks of life. On behalf of railway it was proposed to start the service with two trains. The Kanchanjunga express which runs between Sheladh – Guwahati will start service from Silchar – Sheldah. Besides another train service between Silchar – Marianee was also proposed in the meeting. The civil society in the meeting demanded local trains including super fast train.Then also demanded Silchar – Diburgarh train instead of Silchar – Marianee train. They demanded the connection of Silchar with Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai.On October 13, railway safety board have cleared the route is ready for passenger service.
