AGARTALA, Oct 22 (TIWN): Despite of several meetings and decision taken to stop the erosion of the river bank of the Howrah, till day no initiatives have been taken to implement the decision.

Recently, with an aim to stop the erosion of the river bank of the Howrah, altogether 47.42 hector of land was decided to bring under the bamboo plantation but it seems like the decision is in idle position.

It has been further mentioned that a total of 27 Hector of the area has been already brought under the Bamboo cultivation

Detailing about the fund provided under the MGNREGA, it has been reported that that a total of Rs. 2.36 crore has been provided for the forestry by the District Magistrate of the West.

However, it is worthy to mention that the Forest Department it taking initiatives to control the erosion of bank of the Howrah River but the problem of the river does not end here, the river is also facing threat of major water pollution and so far the river water is worsening day by day.

Besides, till day no fruitful initiatives have been taken yet, despite of several tall claims.

Earlier decision was taken to remove all the kaccha latrines from the bank of the river but till day in many areas people are seen practising open defecation.

Reportedly, the river water is getting polluted day by day in the capital due the regular dumping of garbage over the river or on the bank which later roll down and fall in to the river leading to water pollution.

However, when the River Howrah is getting polluted day by day and erosion is taking place regularly, the authority seems to be least bothered about the emergency required to resume the condition of the of the River Howrah.
