Spelling mistakes triggers question on the literacy level of the state

AGARTALA, Oct 22 (TIWN): In a major embarrassment for the state, where Chief Minister Manik sarkar every now and then claims that Tripura has the highest number if Literate people faced humour when one of police booth at Agartala was seen with glaring spelling mistakes, leading the tall claims of Chief Minister as laughing stock.

The spelling error in the police booth centre came to light after few people were making fun of the spelling, triggering instant reactions from cross sections of the society.

Instead of police “booth” it was written police “Both” which became laughing stock for the people of the state.

It is to be mentioned here that, India’s north-eastern state of Tripura achieved the first position in literacy with 94.65 per cent, beating Kerala (93.91 per cent), Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar announced in the state.

Tripura jumped to first position among the states of the country in literacy from the 12th position in the 2001 census and the fourth position in the 2011 census," Sarkar said at a function on the occasion of International Literacy Day. 

Sarkar said that after Tripura attained 87.75 percent literacy in the 2011 census, a government survey was conducted by the eight district magistrates in August 2012 which found that only 131,634 people of the state's 37 lakh people, including those aged 50 and above were illiterate. 

The spelling mistake in the banner has curved out a laughing stock in the state.
