Indo-Bangla Feni Bridge construction del | SABROOM, Oct 27 (TIWN): Proposed Bridge over river Feni between Tripura and Chittagong is delaying. After the Teesta agreement fell through, Bangladesh backed out and so no such construction work has taken up. The proposed bridge will connect Southern Tripura's border town Sabroom,135 km south of Agartala, with the Bangladeshi border town Ramgarh,300 km Northest of Dhaka. With the Land Boundary Agreement wrapped up, India and Bangladesh can look forward to boosting their trade and connectivity with the inking of milestone accords on coastal shipping and the opening up of Chittagong and Mongla ports in Bangladesh to bilateral commerce. On June 6, during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka, India and Bangladesh inked the agreement on Coastal Shipping for two-way trade through ports; renewed the 1972 Protocol on Inland Waterways Transit and Trade (PIWTT) for using their waterways for commerce; and signed an MoU for use of Chittagong and Mongla Ports for movement of goods to and from India. Monarchak 101 MW Power Plant cripples du | AGARTALA, Oct 27 (TIWN): Powered by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Tripura's 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant has undergone complete shutdown from October 16 due to the gas cut from ONGC, said official source. Reportedly, The ONGC has started supplying gas from October 5 to Monarchak power plant and Monarchak was able to produce a power of 37 MW to around 60 MW round the clock till Oct 16 but the sudden crisis of gas supply from ONGC simce Oct 16 has disrupted the power generation. However, the 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant in Sipahijala district at Sonamura sub-division has stopped power production after ONGC has stopped gas supply to Monarchak power plant. Talking to talking correspondent, Monarchak power plant official said there is possibility that ONGC might resume supplying gas to the plant continuously from March 2016. According to the highly placed official source, currently the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has stopped its gas supply to Monarchak power plant as both the Palatana power unit has started power generation in full swing. | 27-Oct-2015 |

Agartala-Kumarghat railway track: Uncert | AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Although officially the trolley run on Agartala-Kumarghat railway track is conducted successfully, but tension still prevails high with the left out conversion work at around 800 meter of Teliamura area. The local people of Teliamura have stalled the BG conversion work at Teliamura in demand of road over bridge since October 1. Due to the strong confrontation from the side of the villagers BG conversion work could not be taken up at around 800 meter area of Teliamura. If the impasse continues the work will be suffered. It is to be mentioned here that although the trolley runs on the Agartala-Kumarghat railway track is inaugurated successfully but uncertainty still looms large with the stalled BG conversion work at Teliamura along with several spots at Kumarghat and Ambassa. Though the Agartala-Kumarghat railway track is converted to BG track yet huge work is left in the several spots. The crushed stones, which are known as ballast are required to be laid alongside the old meter gauge railway track at Kumarghat- Monu area as these stones are necessary to hold the wooden cross ties in place, which in turn hold the rails in place. Banks to fix interest rates on gold depo | AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): In a recent notification the Reserve Bank has issued a guideline on the Gold Monetisation Scheme that will now allow banks to fix their own interest rates on gold deposits. The RBI notification in this regard came ahead of the formal launch of the scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Novermber 5. Durga puja arranged in jail only to ente | AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Manik Sarkar’s left front government “ model state†have set another example in the state yet again.Durga puja was arranged in the jail for entertaining three of their senior leaders currently detained in Belonia jail accused of manhandling judges. It is for the first time in state’ history that Durga Puja has been arranged in any jail. All expenditure of the puja reportedly was managed from state government’s coffer. The incident have surprised the civil society of the state.On September 2, during general strike called by left front two judges were manhandled at Sabroom and Belonia by CPI-M cadres. The three accused in the incident - CPI-M divisional secretary Tapas Datta, divisional members Babool Debnath and Trilokesh Sinha are lodeged in Belonia district jail. The leaders and CPI-M party thought they will get bail before puja, but that did not happen. Under this circumstance, hurriedly arrangement was made for Durga puja in the jail.Now the question is how puja was arranged in jail? Who gave the permission? To get the answer Prison Minister to IG Prisons were all connected. The in charge jailer of Belonia jail, Dhanjoy Bhattacherjee informed that the inmates requested for arranging puja in jail. Hydro test of CNG vehicles mandatory, pu | AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Starting November 1, pumps will refuse CNG to vehicles found without a compliance plate. The plate includes a CNG cylinder identification number, date of installation, date of last re-test, besides other things. CNG run vehicles will not be given gas from November 1. As per guidelines it is mandatory to hydro test the gas cylinder of CNG vehicles. Meanwhile, TNGCL authorities have issued notification stating that it is mandatory of having cylinders hydro tested. If any vehicles fails follow the guidelines, then from November 1 gas will not be given to them. An official of TNGCL said taking in consideration of the safety passengers the decision was taken as per direction of central ministry of petroleum and natural gas.It is mentionable here that safety measures keeping in view passengers TNGCL is under constant pressure in implementing the guidelines. Every time, TNGCL have to back track from implementing in due to pressure from ruling party transport workers union. Resulting in sidling the safety and security of passengers.This exercise aims to crackdown on vehicles using unauthorized CNG kits," said an TNGCL officer. The agency is also distributing pamphlets at CNG pumps . In the first phase last year,TNGCL had promoted awareness on re-testing of the cylinder. For all CNG vehicles, whose cylinder life has crossed five years, it is mandatory to get a hydrotest done. "The test helps in certifying the cylinder and provides other details. As per the Gas Cylinder Rules 2004, it is mandatory to run hydro test on cylinders of CNG and LPG vehicles every five years. Non-NET fellowships to continue, says Un | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Oct 26 (TIWN): In relief to students protesting over scrapping of non-national eligibility test (NET) stipends, the central government on Sunday announced all existing scholarships would continue and set up a committee to look into the issues of research scholars."The review committee will submit a report to the human resource ministry by December. Irrespective of its recommendations, all existing and continuing fellowships, NET as well as non-NET, would be continued; there will be no retrospective change," the ministry said in a statement.​Protesting against the decision to discontinue non-NET fellowship, hundreds of students from various educational institutions, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia and Ambedkar University, were camping at the University Grants Commission (UGC) office at ITO here since Wednesday. They vacated the venue on Friday evening.The protestors wanted the UGC to not only restore the scholarship but also increase fellowship amount. Udaipur Child trafficking: SDPO in talk | UDAIPUR, Oct 26 (TIWN): With an aim to nab the absconding woman who allegedly fled with the five children to Bangladesh, the family of the eight year old child who is one among the five kidnapped children on Sunday also went to Bangladesh. Talking to TIWN correspondent, SDPO Ratan Kumar Das said that it is suspected that accused Rehana Begum is still in Bangladesh. He also mentioned that investigation is going on. The BSF were asked that whether they have seen any women with five children and were also asked to keep a strict vigilance over the border area, added SDPO Das. Suspecting the allegedly accused Rehana Begum (49), trafficked five children to Bangladesh, Udaipur Police initiated search drive. Parents of the missing children lodged FIR at RK Pur Police Station on Saturday after the accused Bangladeshi woman disappeared to Bangladesh with the five children. Reportedly the family members of the children believe that the accused woman has crossed the border and went to Noakhali District of Bangladesh. Multicrore 'Jatropha' Scam : Forest depa | AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): Since Tripura has a climate favourable for rubber and jatropha cultivation, the state had made its presence felt in the both the agro-based products, but it is seen that though the central government has sanctioned a total of 7.52 crore but there is no glimpse of any Jatropha cultivation in the state. Energy security, emissions control and environmental concerns are some of the issues that drive India to search for bio-fuels in general and bio-diesel in particular as an alternative source of energy. The inception of National Biofuel Mission in 2003 has resulted in expansion of jatropha plantations in different states of the country. In North-East India, jatropha plantation was started in 2007, mostly at small sector level with direct and indirect initiatives of the government and the private sector. However, adoption and expansion of jatropha plantation in the rural areas largely depend on profitability from such plantations at small level. The profitability of jatropha plantation is in four states of North-East India, which includes Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Tripura. It is to be mentioned here that with the aim to develop the Jatropha cultivation in the state the central government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 7.52crore but till date there is no report of any Jatropha cultivation in the state and no one knows where such a huge amount of money has disappeared. | 25-Oct-2015 |

He took charge from R K Gupta, who was holding the additional charge of NE railway. After Ranjit Singh Biradi retired as GM on September last, Gupta GM of eastern railway was holding the additional charge. The appointment of new GM will boost the broad guage conversion work thinks railway experts. Muhammad Jamshed joined railway service on 1980. During his long service he held important posts in North, East and Central railways like – additional member of rail board, executive director , CVO, DRM etc.He attained higher degree from Paris, France and Chigago, US, besides he represented Japan, Srilanka and Iran on behalf of Indian railway. Meanwhile passenger train likely to start between Silchar – Lumding. Railway is planning to start the service before Diwali festival in November. This will pave the way of starting passenger trains between Silchar – Agartala without any hurdles. According to expert, until and unless train service starts between Silchar – Lumding than Agartala cannot make a place in railway map of the country. Tripura's Human Rights Commission : CM n | AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s role in constituting states human rights commission was severely criticized by former MP and PDF leader Ajoy Biswas. Addressing a press conference on Saturday evening at Agarala Press Club he claimed that the state government and chief minister was not willing to have a human rights commission. Even though all states in the country has constituted a human rights commission but the left ruled state was always against having such a commission, Biswas said. The SC recently said it was the statutory duty of the state govt to set up human rights commissions. He said after Supreme Court directive, the state government was forced to have a human rights commission in the state, the initiative could have taken earlier by the state government.Due to unwillingness of the government, the people of the state was deprived from their fundamental rights. Chief minister was not interested to have a commission only to safe guard CPI(M) party interst alleged the former MP. Sarkar excuse for not having a human commission was there was shortage of retired high court judges.After supreme court directive, Sarkar has to shift from his earlier stand said Biswas adding CPI(M) is a double standard party. The party claims to be protector of democracy but in reality there act is against democracy. Flyover work resumes at Battala, pillari | AGARTALA, Oct 24 (TIWN): With the aim to complete the construction work in the given deadline, fly over work has resumed from Saturday to meet the deadline at Battala. However, the fly over construction work was suspended during the puja days to avoid traffic glitch. As Battala is the main junction of the city and caters crowd from all direction the fly-over construction was suspended during the puja days. Keeping in the view the rush gathers at the Battala junction during the puja days the decision was taken to stop the construction work during puja. Tripura’s first ever flyover construction started with an aim to contain heavy traffic congestion in 117 years old Tripura capital Agartala. The construction work for the flyover is expected to be completed within 30 months from now. The work progress in the fly over construction shows that the days are not so far when the regular traffic chaos which occurs at Battala will lessen down with the construction of the fly over. Reportedly, TRTC is not getting adequate numbers of passengers for travelling to Kolkata via Dhaka.After waiting for several months, the state government has finally catered its own Volvo bus to the land locked Tripura to provide its own volvo bus service from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka but there is no adequate number of passengers to travel through the bus.Despite all odds and with an aim to meet the demand of the land-locked Tripura and to contain the rise in airfares the bus service for Agartala-Kolkata via Dhaka has started its journey from Agartala.After facing several obstacles, the much awaited state own Volvo bus service has finally kick-off its journey.The Bus itself cost Rs 88 lakh 23 thousand and after all other chargers including insurance and other things the range stands at Rs91, 21,221.It is to be mentioned here that after waiting for several months, the state government has finally catered its own Volvo bus to the land locked Tripura to provide its own volvo bus service from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka, but no adequate number of passengers is noticed. | 24-Oct-2015 |

The celebration is all about meeting friends and having a whale of a time. It’s not always about the highly decorated heavy budget pandals but a moment of true happiness and heart full of enjoyment. Devotees thronged marquees and community pujas across state to bid adieu to goddess Durga, the last day of the puja, which saw Mahanavami and Vijaya Dashami coinciding on Thursday.With anticipation of homecoming of the deity next year, people participated in the last rounds of prayers and rituals.As per the calendar, Vijaya Dashami - the last day of the puja - merged with Mahanavami this year, thereby shortening the usual five-day affair to a four-day celebration.
