AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): A series of questions arise whether Tripura will again witness a similar series of bomb blasts in Durga Puja like in the year 2008, following the alleged intrusion of NLFT militants at the Korbook sub division over past days. With the aim to conduct safe and secure puja at Agartala, State police have put stringent security measures in place to maintain peace in Tripura as it celebrates Durga Puja across the state. It is to be mentioned here that in the 2008 Agartala bombings at least 4 people were killed and a 100 injured on 1 October 2008 in a series of 5 blasts set off in Agartala, capital of the Indian state of Tripura, within 45 minutes, while two unexploded bombs were defused. Earlier also in the year 2008 series bomb blasting caused death to many people, and this year also NLFT made a master-plan to create communal violence during Durga Puja festival. Police is keeping hawks eye at every corners of the State capital, especially Agartala city to trace if the militants had chalked out plan of repeating 2008 bomb blast incident in the city to prevail a reign of terror in the city.

Adequate measures taken to make the Puja celebrations peaceful. Besides normal policing, we have deployed around 2000 security people are deployed in the capital city and its outskirts.

Security is highly beefed up across the State and all big pandals are under coverage of CCTV cameras.

Twenty three watch towers were built in the capital city and about 25 drop gates set up for checking of vehicles entering Agartala.Besides, thousands of police assistance booths were set up throughout the State.

Cadres of Civil Defence and NCC were also engaged in Puja duties and strict vigil is being maintained on the Assam-Agartala National Highway so that vehicle could ply hassle-free even at midnight.

Reportedly, Numbers of militants from the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) under the initiative of NLFT area commandant Rathomoni Koloi have allegedly entered korbook Sub-division under South district through the long unfenced border area to revive themselves and disrupt the smooth conduct of the festival.

The sources also informed that the extremist are mostly toiling around few specific places including Tirthomukh, Raishyabari, Amritbari, and Mandirghat.

BSF and district police administration are on strict vigil along the border so that militants could not enter into the Indian soil, the source added.  The locals have confirmed that at least a group of members of NLFT have intruded in the Indian soil from Bangladesh Bhogatpur border area to disrupt the peace and tranquillity of the area.

However, the sources confirmed that the militants were seen with huge arms and weapons at the border area.

Police is continuing its interrogation to find out if the militants had any plan like the series of blast they had conducted in capital Agartala in October 2008 just before the festival of Eid and Durga Puja.
