AGARTALA, Oct 23 (TIWN): Steep hike of commodities in the State’s market during the celebration of Vijayadasami hits the livelihood of the poor and middle class people.Prices of fruits, vegetables along with other essential commodities soared in the state. On the day of Dashami people invites their relatives and friends to join meal and to celebrate the day with enjoyment, the steep price hike has become a headache for the people. However, according to the Bengali tradition during the celebration of Vijayadasami most of the families prefer fish dishes in their meal and the price hike has hard to manage their pocket or to deduct the list of commodities from the part of celebration. The price hike has left us no option rather than to deduct some of the items which we would have taken as a part of Puja celebration, said a local. Otherwise it is hard to manage the budget, added. The price hike has not only forced to deduct our essential commodities from the budget list but also upsets our pocket. Over the past few months, retail prices of onion have shot up almost from Rs. 40 per kg to 80-85 per kg in the State. Besides, the wholesale prices of onions have also risen over the same period across the state.

Even after prolonged several months of price hike of commodities in the market, the concern authority is least bothered about how the poor and the middle class families are managing their pockets.

The hikes in the prices of vegetables have upset the budgets of middle and lower class families, particularly affecting those below the poverty line. The rise in prices of vegetables has created great dissatisfaction among the public.

Despite of several tall claims by the authority till day no sign of decrease in the price of commodities has been observed rather it is increasing day by day.

Few days back, the vigilance team made a visit to the shops and markets of Tulsibati Bazaar, GB Bazaar, Battala market, Kamanchowmuhani fruit shop and others.

However, till day no initiatives have been taken to check the price hike in the market.
