Election campaigns: Ministers are unavai | AGARTALA, Dec 5 (TIWN): Keeping eye on the upcoming civic poll, ruling Government has been observed so busy with the election campaign that most of the time the chamber of the Ministers remains vacant at the Civil Secretariat. Reportedly, people from various places visit the Secretariat but find none present at the there.It is to be mentioned here that as the people could not meet the Ministers in their chambers, they are unable to discuss their problems and many of the works are lagging behind. However, compare to any other parties in the State, Left Front Party is far ahead with the election campaign.Though the ruling party is ahead with the campaigning but the absence of Ministers at the secretariat is causing problem for the common people.Allegation has been raised that due to the absence of Ministers in their chambers many are facing problem on signing up any paper. Thousands of graduates, post graduates are coming out every year in this Manik ruled highest literacy rate holder state. But govt. has failed to provide them with jobs and due to transport system’s bad condition, after 66 years of state Tripura’s join with India, no proper industry neither any company could be settled down here and thus no proper private job also available here. The companies which could set here are providing very less amount of salary to the youths which are not sufficient for a person to maintain his/her livelihood in a well manner, especially in a state like Tripura where market price are always at a rise. As a result state is dipped into huge crisis and the state govt. has failed to give a good to its youths. Silchar-Guwahati train service: locals d | AGARTALA, Dec 4 (TIWN): With an aim to keep up the huge flow of the passengers, Broad Gauge Rupayan Sangram Committee demanded to change the timing of the Silchar – Guwahati train service.It is to be mentioned here that at present the Silchar train leaves at 5 am in the early morning and from Guwahati it leaves at 12 am in the mid-night. The passenger train from Silchar covers a distance of 210 km in eight hours to reach Guwahati through Lumding, reducing the travelling time by four hours.The first broad gauge passenger train from Silchar to Guwahati has been flagged - off trains on November 21.However, the committee has been demanding to change the timing of the trains for the benefits of the passengers. It has been mentioned that the current timing of the trains are hectic for the passengers. In a letter to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Tripura opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman requested her to consider favourably the handwritten passports of at least people from Tripura as they have to visit her country for many reasons."A large number of people from Tripura have relatives in Bangladesh and thousands of people from northeast India visit Bangladesh every month for different reasons. Suddenly, the handwritten passports were abolished from November 24, putting them in an awkward position," Barman said in his letter.Special handwritten India-Bangladesh passports were issued to people of five Indian bordering states -- West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram -- under the 1974 Indo-Bangla agreement, popularly known as the Indira-Mujib Pact.The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) had given citizens time till November 24 to get handwritten passports replaced with machine-readable passports (MRPs). Muhuri Char Indo-Bangla disputes delayin | AGARTALA / BELONIA, Dec 3 (TIWN): Since India's independence in 1947 and Bangladesh formation in 1971, long standing dispute of Muhuri Char is still hanging in balance without any ray of hope in sight. Indian Parliament on May 7 passed a constitution amendment bill for operationalising the LBA with Bangladesh, 41 years after the accord was signed between then prime minister Indira Gandhi and her Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The land swap protocol envisaged transfer of 111 enclaves with a total area of 17,160.63 acres to Bangladesh, while the neighbouring country is to transfer 51 enclaves with an area of 7,110.02 acres to India. A 6.1-km undefined border stretch was demarcated with the bill being passed. The 51 enclaves fall in Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya. Union Cabinet approves changes in rural | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI , Dec 3 (TIWN): The union cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for expanding benefits of interest subvention under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) to 100 more districts which includes Tripura and other Northeastern States.The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also approved flexibility in allocation to the Himayat programme and the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana.An official release said the cabinet also approved easing existing criteria for allocation of funds to make adequate provision for the northeastern states, other than Assam, to cover under NRLM all vulnerable rural households -- estimated at two thirds of all the rural households -- by the year 2023-24.Changes in the implementation framework of NRLM include planning for targeted reduction of poverty using the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) database and convergence with other social sector interventions."The use of SECC data would enable the government targeted intervention in poverty reduction in rural area programmes. The NRLM will use SECC data to undertake planning for poverty-free panchayats involving panchayati raj institutions and self-help groups (SHGs)," the release said.The changes in the NRLM framework also include extending interest subvention in 100 more districts. | 03-Dec-2015 |

Civic polls: polling for election-staffs | AGARTALA, Dec 2 (TIWN): Amidst tight security postal ballot for the Municipal election which is scheduled to be held on December 9, began at Umakanta School on Wednesday morning.Vote cast through postal ballot for about 4000 polling personnel, those who are engaged in polling work cast their vote from Wednesday. Vote cast through postal ballot for those who are engaged in the polling work, including Police officers and teachers of state schools will cast their postal ballot from Wednesday. The postal ballot will continue till December 4.Police officials, TSR, teachers and government officials who are engaged in the election duty are able to cast their vote through postal ballot on December 2 and will continue till December 4. Rest of the common people will cast their vote on December 9. It is to be mentioned here that special voters who wish to use the postal ballot will have to apply to the returning officer at least 10 days before the date of polling, after which the returning officer must send him or her ballot papers. Huge security is deployed to conduct smooth and fare election in the state.
