Annapurna Scheme: Number of beneficiaries deducted

AGARTALA, Dec 4 (TIWN): Just when the civic poll is knocking at the door, Sate Government is planning to launch a survey to find out the how much the beneficiaries are benefitted under the Annapurna Scheme.

Annapurna Scheme has been launched with effect in the year 2000 from April.

It aims at providing food security to meet the requirement of those senior citizens who, though eligible, have remained uncovered under the National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS).

The beneficiaries are given 10 Kilogram of food grains per month free of cost.

Reportedly, altogether 9987 beneficiaries are benefited under the Annapurna Scheme.

Earlier, during the financial year 2013-14, altogether 14, 851 beneficiaries were benefited. However, for this 148.50 metric tonne rice were allotted to the state.

It is to be mentioned here that in the financial year 2014-15 financial year around 40 percent of allotment were decreased and the number came to 5740 beneficiaries.

However, just before the election the State Government remembered to conduct a survey to know the status of the beneficiaries.
