Campaign launched to aware the public on voting rights

AGARTALA, Dec 3 (TIWN): In an attempt to increase number of voters in the upcoming civic poll, group of intellectual on Thursday launched a car rally campaign to educate people about the right to vote.

As a part of the initiative the intellectuals have put up huge flexi-banners on the cars, urging the voters to cast their votes in the nearby polling booths.

The rally has been flagged-off by the Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar.

It is to be mentioned here that, the campaign is not on behalf of any political parties but only to aware the people about their right to vote.

The intellectuals will drive across the capital and will announce the people about the importance of each vote.

They will urge the denizens to vote judiciously and to elect the right candidate instead of voting for a candidate who does not deserve it. Besides, they will also mention how a single vote is important for election.

They will approach the people as well as the student, the youth and the future of the state.

It is to be mentioned here that the final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department.

Altogether 537,968 voters, including 268,754 females, are eligible to cast their votes for the upcoming municipal elections.

To ensure greater transparency and avoid confusion in the minds of voters, the Election Commission has decided that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would henceforth display images of the contestants along with their names and party symbols.

However, the preparation for the upcoming election which is scheduled to be held on December 9 is on the peak. As a part of administrative routine, Electronic Voting Machines are already being scrutinized by the officials for the smooth cast of votes during the civic polls. The counting will be conducted on December 12.

Besides, the Electronic Voting Machines has already been sealed and are ready to be taken to the polling booths.
