AGARTALA, Dec 3 (TIWN): CPI-M's political manipulation is yet successful in saving all prime accused culprits involved in the NHM scam, worth an amount of Rs 33 crores of money. National Health Mission (NHM) scam at Unakoti District has brought an embarrassment for the Tripura Left front govt. Although FIR is lodged against 17 health officials by Dr. Sandeep Mahatme to Addl SP Nabadwip Jamata, but even after passage of months no action is taken against the accused neither any initiative is taken to arrest them till date. Talking to TIWN Correspondent on Wednesday PPC Chief Birajit Sinha said that months back FIR was lodged but so far no action is taken to nab them and the accused are roaming free. With the delay in the investigation process, question erupts why there is no development brought in the police investigation to the scam? Why are the accused roaming free even after lodging FIR and why is police yet silent about arresting the accused ? However, question also arises who is protecting the accused from going behind the bars. However, Minister for Health & Family Welfare department, Badal Chowdhury is least interested to make a comment on the NHM scam.Asked about the development of the case, PCC chief Birajit Sinha said that FIR is lodged against the accused long back but till that no action is taken against to nab them from the end of the police.

It is to be mentioned here that case is now completely handed over to the police. But the same police at Unakoti district once refused to take any case against the scam, after the Congress Chief Birajit Sinha demanded for it.

Reportedly, the state government had received complaints of misappropriation of fund during the year 2014, following which the Tripura government has directed State Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) to verify records in view of the alleged embezzlement of funds in the Unakoti district of north Tripura.

It is worthy to mention here that NHM (National Health Mission) Mission Director Dr. Sandeep N Mahatme filed FIR against 17 Medical officials for direct involvement in the case of embezzlement of money.

FIR was filed against 12 Medical officials of North District CMO office and 5 Medical officials of Unakoti District CMO office including Former CMO Unakoti Dr. Dilip Das, Present CMO Dr Alak Dewan, Dr Subhas Barua, Dr. S.N. Chaudhury, Dr. Debashis Talapatra.

Even after the passage of months of the case was brought into focus and the FIR was lodged against 17 NHM officials, police is yet silent in bringing any development in the process of the investigation.  What comes as a shock is that after passage of months, the police have not yet arrested the tainted officials and are helping them to roam free. The slow or no progress in the investigation clearly shows that police is equally involved in protecting the culprits.
