Agartala-Dhaka Moitree bus service resum | AGARTALA, May 15 (TIWN): The Agartala-Dhaka Moitree bus service, which was temporarily suspended in the wake of political unrest in Bangladesh resumed on Friday.The bus service had been resumed after at least 4 months. Bus service between Agartala and Dhaka was suspended for an indefinite period in view of the political unrest in Bangladesh this on the month of February. Shyamali Paribahan Ltd, which plied buses from Dhaka thrice a week, was also suspended their operation for an indefinite period following the same. On yet another bizarre incident on Thursday, the students of Anganwadi centre at Khowai fell ill after mid-day meal as huge amount of dead insects were found at their mid-day meal curry. Later the guardians alongwith the locals locked the Anganwadi centre leaving it suspended for the day. The insects were detected while the children of Khowai Purba Gankul Nazrul Polli Anganwadi were served with their regular mid-day meal Khichudi. After getting alarmed the concerned Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Dinesh Debbarma alongwith two supervisors rushed to the spot and conducted an enquiry to the tragedy. As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "look east" policy, the Centre has already agreed to bear the lion's share of the expenses for expansion and upgrade of the 50.78 Km road connecting Ashuganj river port till Akhaura international check post.According to official sources, of the estimated expenses of Rs 1,600 crore for upgrading the crucial road to a blacktop four-lane highway, the government has conveyed its preparedness for sanctioning Rs 1,500.63 crore. The remaining amount will be taken care of by Bangladesh.Earlier, during his visit in Agartala Bangladesh transport minister (Bridges and Highways) Obaidul Kadir inspected a stretch of 50.78 Km connecting Ashuganj river port till Akhaura international check post. Bangladesh government sanctioned Rs. 35 crore for land acquisition purpose, Kadir added.Disclosing this, the visiting Bangladesh minister for roads and bridges, Obaidul Qader, said work on the expansion of the road will begin soon and preparation is already in an advanced stage. PWD gives Green signal to first ever fly | AGARTALA, May 13 (TIWN): After Central Govt's nod and santion of Rs 300 crores here for Flyover project in Agartala city, a much long awaited foundation stone of the Agartala flyover would be laid on May 27, 2015, said PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury on Wednesday. Minister alongwith PWD Engineer in-chief Sunil Bhowmik and other officials visited the site at Dropgate and Bordowali area where the foundation stone would be laid. Speaking to the reporters during the site inspection Minister Badal Chowdhury said, “The first ever flyover here in Agartala city would be one of the historical momentum for the state as well as for the North eastern region.†Chowdhury mentioned that there would be no further delay of the construction work as there are no other problems left with the department. “The foundation stone of the project work would be laid on May 27 this year,†Chowdhury said on Wednesday. He also said that funds are available with the department as now Rs. 300 crores has been sanctioned. Nagarjuna Construction Company has been assigned to take up the project work.The department has targeted the work to be completed by 3 years from now, said Chowdhury. As the Nagarjun Construction Ltd’s bid among others was found lowest bid, the department has approved the company to undertake the construction work of the fly over, which would connect Drop Gate to Fire Brigade Chowmuhani via Battala. | 13-May-2015 |
Negligence of PWD pushes Tripura’ | AGARTALA, May 13 (TIWN): A vast number of commuters and drivers of the vehicles including night supers and goods carrying trucks are facing several problems due to deplorable condition of National Highway (NH) 44 at Churaibari. After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is getting worse day-by-day due to negligence of PWD. And the CPI (M) party fund of CPI (M) is increasing day by day by embezzling the funds provided by the Central Government for maintenance of NH-44.It is to be mentioned here that earlier, when the maintenance work of NH-44 was under Border Roads Organization (BRO) the maintenance work was progressing in a rapid speed. But since, after the PWD got the opportunity the maintenance work of NH-44 is progressing in a very low rate. At present the PWD and some Melarmath big heads are on a race to embezzle the funds provided by the central government for the welfare of the state, said a highly placed source in Melarmath.The source further mentioned that, it was a preplanned mission of some ministers of the state that how to snatch the maintenance work of NH-44 from BRO and to handed over it to PWD. | 13-May-2015 |
Agartala Airport expansion work delays: | AGARTALA, May 13 (TIWN): Despite a major setback to the construction work of Agartala Airport new terminal building, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chairman R K Sribastav is scheduled to visit here in Tripura on May 29 to take a stock of the situation of the land readied for the construction of new terminal building as per the airport expansion project. The official sources informed that Sribastav would arrive here and would inspect the lands across the existing airport at Narshingarh. However, later on May 29 evening he would meet Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at the civil secretariat. The meeting which would also be attended by Transport Minister Manik Dey and other state officials is expected to take up the issue of the Agartala airport expansion project work that has faced a major setback. Talking to the reporters at the civil secretariat recently Minister Manik Dey in this regard expressing displeasure said, “The AAI has not yet tendered the project work despite the state govt. here has readied the land for it.†“We have also agreed to approve the proposed additional land of at least 4 acres for the project work, but yet today the AAI has not taken up the preface work of the project and has been delaying it further,†Dey told to reporters.
