Radhacharan to be new CEM of TTAADC repl | AGARTALA, May 5 (TIWN): CPI(M) leader Radahacharan Debbarma is all set to be the next CEM of TTAADC replacing Ranjit Debbarma, if party insiders are to be believed.The second most powerful member of the 6th TTAADC after CEM Ranjit Debbarma, Radhacharan who fought the ADC election from Jirania (ST) constitutency in the recently concluded TTAADC election is the most prefered name that is doing the round in the CPI(M) corridors of Melarmath party office here.It may be mentioned here that Radhacharan, who held the School Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, and Kokborok Indigenous Language Research Department in the 6th TTAADC Executive Committee was considered a better choice for the top most post in the TTAADC replacing veteran Ranjit Debbarma.Ranjit Debbarma contested the ADC election from the Ramchandraghat( ST) constituency, which saw a considerable challenge from the rival IPFT candidate in the election. Pineapple powder production factory in T | AGARTALA, May 5 (TIWN): The then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam had laid the foundation stone of one of the most high profile project in Tripura considerably during that time and after long thirteenyears after the foundation stone laying the project is yet to see the production. The much needed pineapple powder-making factory at Bodhjungnagar have failed to take off despite President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam giving a headstart almost thirteen years ago.The President had inaugurated the projects during his daylong visit to the state on October 4, 2002. A strong supporter of organic cultivation, Dr. Kalam used his influence to procure a Central grant of Rs 3 crore for a pineapple powder-making factory in the state.The state government had signed a memorandum of understanding with Kolkata-based Trans-India Ltd. and provided them land worth Rs 35 lakh for setting up the pineapple factory.Representatives of the company had said at the inauguration ceremony that production would begin in the month of May, 2003. Patna HC axes SC/ST quota in promotions | PATNA / AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): The Patna High Court on Monday quashed Bihar's decision to provide reservation in promotions to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) government employees.After hearing a petition by Sushil Kumar Singh and two others challenging the decision, a division bench of the court ordered the 2012 policy be scrapped.The court's order is a setback for hundreds of SC/ST officials.Tripura High Court on April 9 in a landmark judgement on reservation in Tripura govt promotions comprising Chief justice Deepak Kumar Gupta and Justices U.B.Saha and Swapan Chandra Das have applied brakes to uncontrolled promotions of SC/ST candidates to higher posts which is usually meant for general categories.Most important part of April 9's judgement is High Court delcared in clear terms that promotions in Govt services should be based on merit and not on the basis of SC/ST criteria.On April 9, After hearing bunch of petitions by general candidates, Tripura High Court delivered a 78 page comprehensive judgment laying down general principles for promotion in the reserved category . | 04-May-2015 |
Lack of Govt. intervention ruins Kailasa | AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): Lack of governmental intervention has ruined the upgradation work of the Kailasahar airport under Unakoti District. The District Magistarte and Collector (DM) Mrinal Kanti Nath has recently send a proposal to the state transport department in regard of the acquisition of 70 acres of land.Kailasahar aerodrome, located at Durgapur area under Kailasahar subÂdivision which was established in the 60th century with small aircraft service, now remains closed for past many years due to lack of maintenance, staffing, and others. However talking to TIWN in regard of upgradation of the airport, an official source said, “Recently the Kailasahar DM has submitted the Direct project Report (DPR) with the state transport department". It has been learnt that the official had also send a proposal with the department regarding acquisition of 70 acres of land for the upgradation work. The official source said that the DPR along with the design will shortly be place before an Airport Authority of India (AAI) board for approval of design and finance. 83.61% turnout in ADC polls ready to dec | AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): Decks made readied for a total of 175 candidates with 7.58 voters to decide their fate on May 6 after the counting of votes casted for Tripura Tribal Council. However this year the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (ADC) election on Sunday recorded an 83.61% turnout, confirmed State election commission secretary Tamal Mazumdar on Monday. Talking to TIWN on Monday Majumder said that the security forces including Central Paramilitary Forces, BSFs, TSR and local police are deployed from the beginning of the poll and would keep strict vigil during the counting day on May 6. According to the police source, the CPMFs are keeping an eagle eye along the bordering areas of the state to restrict any untoward incidents during the poll counting. The source also confirmed that the security personnel are also keeping strict vigil in front of the strong rooms guarding the EVMs. Earlier on Sunday EC for DC S K Rakesh said “The CPMFs sanctioned by Govt. of India were only assigned for area domination and to maintain law and order situation at every nook and corner of the ADC areas.†| 04-May-2015 |

Rs.20,000 crore road projects announced | GUWAHATI / AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN) The central government will spend Rs.20,000 crore for the development of roads in the northeastern states this year, Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday at Guwahati. Gadkari said the government was also planning to develop inland water transport in the region. "While an amount of Rs.8,000 crore will be spent on road projects in Assam, the government will spend about Rs.6,000 crore for road projects in Arunachal Pradesh," he said at a press conference. Central Govt’s Rs. 20,000 crore will be spent on road projects in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Due to lack of initiatives of Tripura Govt in taking up of road development projects acrossTripura, no fund was allocated for upgrading existing NH-44 and other roads. NH-44 Assam – Agartala corridor is in worst condition due to to apathy of State PWD Dept and Tripura’s Helicopter savvy Ministers. 7th ADC poll records 83% voting, pass of | AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): Elections to the 30-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) passed off peacefully on Sunday with tentatively 83% votes cast, said Election Commissioner S.K.Rakesh on Sunday evening.Talking to the newsmen on Sunday at the civil secretariat EC S K Rakesh said, “The election was incident-free and tentatively about 83 % voters cast their votes.†He said that the highest percentage of vote was casted at 27 No. Purbamohuricherra constituency with 88%, while the lowest percentage rests at 76% at 28 No. Shilachari constituency. These are all tentative figure, said Rakesh.It is expected that the total percentage of vote casting might turn out to cross 83.6% that was recorded during the last ADC poll in 2010, said Rakesh.Adding to that Rakesh said, “A total of 4 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were replaced after those were found malfunctioned during the poll, while in addition to this more 6 EVMs were replaced before the actual poll.â€He said that the polling officers found 6 EVM machines malfunctioning during the tests and later they were replaced whereas other 4 EVMs were immediately replaced by the technicians that were found malfunctioned during the poll. 4 EVM machines were replaced at 1/46 Dhamcherra-Jampui constituency, 14/9 Bodjonnagar, 22/9 Kathalia-Mirjapur and 25/33 Notunbazar-Malbasa. | 04-May-2015 |

Tripura goes ADC poll amidst opposition | AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): Tripura Tribal Council on Sunday went for poll to 28 seats with 7.58 lakhs voters casting their vote to decide the fate of 175 candidates for 28 constituencies of the tribal council. The voting begun from 7:00 AM on Sunday amidst tight security across the state. Voting is being held at 1,070 polling stations in the TTAADC areas, whose jurisdiction covers two-third of Tripura`s 10,491.69 square km territory. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used in the TTAADC polls for the first time. According to the officials, there were no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere in the state. The officials said, “The central paramilitary forces along with BSFs and local police are deployed across ADC areas to maintain peace.†However, but a section of opposition parties on Sunday alleged that no CPMF or other security forces were witnessed to be absent at maximum polling booths, as a result the voters are casting their vote amidst no security forces. The opposition also claimed that no security forces infront of the polling booths might result to cause any untoward incidents during the vote. Tripura goes for TTAADC poll on Sunday : | AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): With the first ever of its kind the Election Commission of India introduced Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) to the general elections to Tripura Tribal Areas and Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which are scheduled to be held in the state on May 3, 2015. The counting of votes would take place on May 6.According to the notification issued for the poll, the term of office of the current District Council is slated to expire on May 19. The new District Council would have to be constituted before the expiry of the current District Council.EVMs have been used in Tripura since 2003 assembly polls but this is the first time that the Left-ruling state Tripura to go for poll this year with the EVMs for ADC voters. Traditionally, ballot papers have been in use for ADC polls since 1982.State Election Officer S K Rakesh earlier informed that the ECI has sanctioned 1,450 EVMs for holding elections in 1,070 booths in the tribal areas. About 7.58 lakhs voters will exercise their franchise this time in EVM. A total 758554 voters comprising of 383437 male and 375117 female are going to cast their votes for the 28 seats of the TTAADC. There has been an increase of 19 percent in the number of voters as compared to 2010 voter's list, in which there were 637240 voters. | 03-May-2015 |
IPFT complaints EC against CPI-M for vio | AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) issued complaints with the Election Commissioner for District Council against the ruling CPI-M for violating model code of conduct of election in wake of the ADC poll.IPFT President N C Debbarma on Saturday talking to the reporters here at Agartala Press club alleged, “The ruling CPI-M has been grossly violating the model code of conduct of election and are largely indulging in activities of Electoral offences in wake of the multi-cornered ADC poll.â€Debbarma also alleged that the CPI-M has been adopting corrupt practices. He said, “The party had crossed the ‘Laxman rekhas’ and are trying to influence the election to the TTAADC.†Debbarma coming down heavily on the statement of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar during election campaign said, “Sarkar while delivering his speech in his campaign had blatantly attacked the IPFT and its top functionaries including President, Chairman of the Party, etc. in a very bad taste language.â€The IPFT had issued a complaint the Election Commissioner for District Council on April 18. | 03-May-2015 |
Is Jiten being shielded by Manik’ | AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): Even after 17 days’ of the murder of expelled CPI-M leader Jiten Das’ wife Kalpana Das, the police is yet to come to any concrete stand as to who and how the murder was committed. Though the expellede CPI-M leader is claiming himself to be innocent, the police is almost sure of his involvement in the crime.With the recovery of two sharp cutting weapons from a pond adjacent to the expelled CPI-M leaders’ house, the police is expecting a breakthrough into the murder case. TTAADC Election: Polling parties reache | AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): State administration geared up for the general election to TTAADC to be held on Sunday. All the polling personnel assigned to the election have made their way to their destination at all the polling booths on Saturday.Besides, the police had already set up an elaborate arrangements with 21 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces along with other security forces and the local police are deployed across the state to maintain law and order situation during the poll on Sunday.The voting to ADC will commence from 8 AM on Sunday and would be continued till 5 PM. In the TTAADC Election, the total number of candidates contesting is counted as 175. Nearly 6 thousand election workers were employed for 1070 polling booths.A total of 7. 85 lakhs voters would decide the fate of the candidates. 16 observers had been appointed to 28 district council constituencies for the smooth conduct of the election.To ensure a violence free election and to avoid any preÂ-poll untoward incidents, a full proof security arrangement has been made by the administration, said an official source. NLFT backed IPFT creates havoc on the ev | AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): Despite tight security deployed for the ADC poll declared to be held on May 3, a section of NLFT backed IPFT workers were allegedly creating havoc in and around the ADC villages of the state. However this has now led a section of ADC voters in panic. Several villagers across the ADC areas of the state alleged, “Some IPFT workers are threatening us to vote for them.â€The “Gundaraj†of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is gaining another momentum creating disturbances in the ADC areas ahead of the poll on May 3, on Sunday. The ADC voters were found sustaining their livelihood in terror like situation in wake of the poll.On Friday night at Khowai Ramchandraghat several villagers had alleged that a section of IPFT supporters are on a move to create disturbances across the area. ADC voters under threat from IPFT suppo | KHOWAI, May 2 (TIWN): With the general election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council to be held on May 3 on Sunday, the ADC voters at Khowai Chonkhola village were reported facing threatening from a section of IPFT supporters. However, the incident has triggered a panic among the villagers with the police issued warning to the accused IPFT supporters. The incident was reported on Friday from Khowai Chinkhola under Baijolbari Police Station. It has been learnt that some 25 IPFT youth supporters on Friday night visiting the concerned villages threatened the voters at the area and has allegedly warned the voters not to vote for any other party in this ADC poll. The IPFT supporters also allegedly threatening the voters said if they do not vote for IPFT than their hands would be cut and would have to pay for it in future. However, the IPFT supporters were identified as Samir Debbarma (30), Sanab Debbarma and others. Reportedly they have been seen loitering in and around the villages by motor cycle during the night hours and had visited most of the villages and threatened the ADC voters to vote for IPFT. Later getting an alarm Ramchandraghat MLA Poddo Debbarma along with the party supporters reached the spot and had a chat with the villagers, but while returning back from the spot were allegedly attacked by those IPFT youths. | 02-May-2015 |
