AGARTALA, May 14 (TIWN): With an aim to strengthen the border guarding, Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier opened its Composite Border Out Post (BOP) near Indo-Bangla border at Rangamura under Sonamura sub-division on Thursday.

In-Charge Director General of Police (DGP) K. Nagaraj inaugurated the Composite Border Out Post (BOP).

Addressing in the inaugural ceremony Inspector General of BSF Tripura frontier B.N. Sharma said that “Our effort is to provide best of facilities to our jawans and now work will start to upgrade other BOP’s along the border”. The composite BOP has facilities such as office block, barrack, dining hall, security infrastructure and other needed facilities.

With the construction of these BOPs, the troops will get proper accommodation besides these will help in better border management. He informed that the existing old pattern BOPs were also to be upgraded to the level of composite BOPs in phased manner, he added.

Around 162 km of the Indo-Bangla border barbed fencing could not be constructed due to riverines, settlement and rough terrain. He mentioned that terrorist have no longer have any influence in the state and BSF jawans are on alert along the international border.

A total of 64 Border Out Post (BOP) are present in the state. Out of the 64 Border Out Post (BOP) 22 BOP are in operation at present, he added. The remaining 42 BOP will become operational soon, he added.

Four Indian northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam share an 1,880-km border with Bangladesh. The mountainous terrain, dense forests and other hindrances make the unfenced borders porous and vulnerable, enabling illegal immigrants and intruders cross over without any hurdle.
India is erecting a fence and putting up floodlights along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram to check trans-border movement of militants, and to check border crimes.
