Wretched condition of NH-44 causes suffering for commuters at large this monsoon

AGARTALA, May 16 (TIWN): A vast number of commuters and drivers of the vehicles including night supers and goods carrying trucks are facing several problems due to deplorable condition of National Highway (NH) - 44 the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura adjacent to Churaibari entry gate.

Reportedly, due to poor quality construction of over one kilometer four-lane national highway from FCI godown, a vast number of potholes have been created following the incessant rain in the area. According to a section of lorry drivers, they have no option but to travel through the long stretch of National Highway with full of potholes and boulders.

One local claimed, “The condition of the NH-44 within this District is in a pathetic condition and has deteriorated from bad to worse. Commuters and commercial vehicles are facing lots of problem due to constant traffic jams and accidents due to the worsening condition of the road.”

As a result, travelling to outside the state through the only road connectivity link is turned dangerous for the passengers, buses, goods carrying lorries and ambulances.

According to the locals the concerned authorities should look into the matter and rehabilitate such potholes and cracks between the roads to ensure a safe journey for driver as they need urgent repairing.
