Anganwadi workers sacked off from service after dead insects found on mid-day meal

KHOWAI, May 16 (TIWN): On yet another embarrassment to the centrally sponsored schemes here in Tripura, two Anganwadi staffs has been expelled from their service permanently by the concerned department after the mid-day meal tragedy occurred on Thursday where some dead insects were found on mid-day meal khichuri meant to nourish the minors.

The insects were detected while the children of Khowai Purba Gankul Nazrul Polli Anganwadi were served with their regular mid-day meal curry. The incident occurred on Thursday.

However, on Friday following the issue the concerned Child Development Project Officer Dinesh Debbarma holding a meeting with the Purba Gankul Gram Panchayat members at the Anganwadi centre sagged of Chayarani Paul, worker of the centre and another Basanti Debnath who was the cook.

The decision was taken on Friday morning after cook Basanti Debnath complaint that Anganwadi worker Chayarani Paul in every month used to take half of the rice at her home that comes here for cooking mid-day meal for the children. She also complaint that inspit of taking the matter with the Gram Panchayat and the local leaders no necessary steps were taken.

Asked about the reason for cooking no fresh rice for the children, Debnath said Chayarani often used to take the fresh rice from the kitchen of the centre as a result on Thursday she has decided to cook the low quality rice that left with the centre that contains with full of insects in it. “I also wanted to issue the matter with the locals and I asked some of the children not to have the curry rather to complain it to their guardian,” Debnath said.

However later after hearing Basanti CDPO on his stern decision sagged off both the staff from the centre permanently and replaced one concerned Gram Panchayat ward member Nirjola Tati and Billobashi Dashi as a cook has been inducted at the centre for the time being.

The Anganwadi centre consists of a total of 33 students, and interestingly during the enquiry on Friday morning it was revealed that expelled staff Chayarani Paul used to register full attendance at the centre whereas the real entity is hardly 7 to 8 students comes to the centre daily.

CDPO later expelling the3 staffs said that there would be no compromise with the food meant for nourishing children.
