Tripura continues religious bloodshed culture with Tribal, Bengali rituals

AGARTALA, April 21 (TIWN): Thousands and thousands chickens have been sacrificed during Garia Puja on Wednesday, which has blooded the soil of holy pujas once again.

Tripura tribal community observed Garia puja from the last day of month Chaitra and it ends after 7 days.

This celebration basically belongs to the Jamatia Hoda community and they set the locations every year for the puja and Gari-Mela centres. Mass gathering was observed at Amarpur Debbari to Udaipur Athrobla and many other places of North Tripura and South Tripura. But basically the main of the Garia fair was this time Atharobla, Udaipur.

But during the festival bloodshed pollutes the scenario and that crucial culture is yet today celebrated in overall Tripura.

However, this culture of animal or bird-sacrificing is not only for tribal cultures but equally Bengali cultures —but this cruel culture dominates many temples in Tripura almost in all Kali temples.

Jamatia people on this day worship Baba Garia. ‘Garia’ is another formation of Lord Shiva and thousands of chickens are sacrificed on that occasion.

Like every year the stature of Garia is being taken to the every house of Debbari village during the morning time and after that all the rituals and customs are being performed by the Jamatia people. Many sacrifices of goats will be done during the whole day. Pulindra Kr. Jamatia(Hoda Okra) is accomplishing all the important rituals of the puja.
