KAMALPUR, April 20 (TIWN): The Governor Tathagat Roy inaugurated the two day long Garia Puja and Festival this afternoon at Kamranga area under Kamalpur subdivision.
Amidst the scorching heat, the volunteers, school kids and artists waited for hours together standing on the both sides of the road to welcome the Governor. And then he came. The local people received the Governor with floral greetings. Then, after the occasional reception on the stage, the Governor lighted the inaugural lamp.
In his short speech, the Governor said, “The different Pujas and festivals those take place at different parts of the country as well as this state on different occasions are the tune and essence of our ideal of plurality.
We should mingle and organize such festivals and pujas more and more to preserve and protect this plurality which remains our national pride and honour. I have no idea of diversified festivals of Tripura. As I am getting more opportunity to mingle with and witness those festivals, I am getting more and more overwhelmed. Moreover, the participation of people from all wakes of life is more interesting fact of these festivals. Such festivals should be encouraged and cherished more.”
In the inaugural session MLA Anjan Das, DM Bikash Singh and Convenor of the Organizing Committee Karunakanta Debbarma delivered speeches. Local artists presented some glimpses of the age old tradition of rich culture in front of the Governor.
