Agartala-Badarpur Mega Block to get BG r | AGARTALA, July 28 (TIWN): In a bid to break the deadlock on the proposed Broad Gauge (BG) conversion work under the Mega Block a delegation team of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Monday met state Transport Minister Manik Dey at the secretariat demanding for a security measures if required, health hazards, FCI and IOC sites and others prior to kick off the full fledged work, said official source of secretariat on Monday.The train services from Agartala would remain suspended from October 1 following the mega block conversion work which is scheduled to end by March 2016. Presently one pair passenger train is running between Karimganj and Agartala.The official said that the delegation team meeting with Minister Manik Dey had demanded for certain assistance by the state government comprising of security measures in the sections from Agartala to Badarpur section if required.The NFR has also demanded for health hazards in view of the areas which is prone to malaria. According to them there is a need of taking precautionary measures to eradicate the health problem on account of mosquito bites. NH-44 damaged, over 1000 goods laden tru | AGARTALA, July 28 (TIWN):The land-locked Tripura was cut-off from the rest of the country by road as a large portion of National Highway-44 (NH-44) was damaged in Assam due to the rains, a PWD official said here Monday.The National Highway got badly damaged in around 5 km in Assam's Lower powar area at point 20 three days ago due to incessant monsoon rains.The 630-km-long NH-44 is the only one that links Tripura by road with the rest of India via Shillong and Guwahati.The Tripura government sought Assam and Border Roads Organisation's (BRO) help to urgently repair the road, described as the life line of Tripura."Our transport secretary and chief engineer of PWD (Public Works Department) Thursday have taken up the matter with their Assam counterparts to take steps to urgently repair the national highway," Engineer in Chief, Sunil Bhowmick told TIWN.Meanwhile an official of the Tripura transport department told TIWN that over 1000 goods laden trucks and other vehicles with passengers have been stranded for the past three days after the road was damaged."If the damaged road was not renovated on urgent basis, the situation would be further worsened and the crisis of essential commodities would be further aggravated," the official said. | 28-Jul-2015 |

BSNL GM J. Rabichandra acts unruly towar | AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): A serious allegation rose against Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Tripura SSA Unit General Manager J. Rabichandra for acting unruly towards the media persons on Monday at Agartala Akhaura Integrated Check Post. Rabichandra was found behaving wild with the media persons while they entered the ICP, with prior approval to cover the meeting being held over the international internet connectivity. The meeting was convened by the delegations from both India and Bangladesh. In view of the outcome of the important meeting the media persons on Monday morning rushed to the Akahura ICP, but some unruly behaviour of GM J. Rabichandra let the concerned BSF guards to restrict the media from going inside the meeting hall. The newsmen on Monday had got a prior approval from the Land Port Authority to cover the meeting being held at ICP, but despite that the unruly General Manager said, “There is no role of media here, you all may go from here.†However, this has triggered a huge resentment among the media on Monday. Indo-Bangla meet on Land-Boundary agreem | AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): The India-Bangladesh joint meeting on land-boundary agreement held on July 23 at Bangladesh capital Dhaka, had finalised map design granting a fresh boundary for the two nations, said official source. The joint survey report on enclaves of both the sides of India and Bangladesh has also been finalised. The two days meeting was held at Dhaka Shonargao hotel. SC directs Tripura and other NE states t | AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): Supreme Court had recently directed Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Arunchal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland to set up Human Rights Commissions as it noted that Delhi had the second highest number of complaints of human rights violations lodged with the National Human Rights Commission. SC said that it was the legal duty of the state governments to set up state Human Rights Commissions as their absence makes access to justice by the victims of the human rights violation an "illusion". ONGC resumes Monarchak power generation, | AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): After a major halt the 100 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant in West Tripura district, about 50 km from here had resumed generation of power for the state despite the state owned Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) is reluctant to buy the power due to the high power cost. “The Monarchak opened by spending a huge amount has resumed its power generation after a major halt,†said a reliable source of Monarchak on Sunday.The source said that ONGC had started supplying gas to the Monarchak 100 MW gas based thermal power plant after getting their gas reserve recovered from where they were supposed to supply the gas.At present the plant is undergoing trial run prior to kick of commercial generation of power from the plant.The official of the plant further added that Monarchak is also planning to get the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) soon to start the commercial power generation.Earlier the ONGC had to suspend its gas supply temporarily due to some crisis in its reservoirs from where the ONGC was supposed to pipe gas to Monarchak power plant. | 26-Jul-2015 |

Centre to decide funding source for In | AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): On yet another nod to the Rs. 580 crore India-Bangladesh rail project linking Agartala rail station with the Bangladesh Brahmanbaria District via Akhaura, the Ministry of Finance is all set to decide the source of the fund to be released for the project work, said the top official of state transport department. The total 15km-long railway link between Agartala and Akhaura railway junction in Brahmanbaria district of is expected to be completed by mid-2017. Just after the NITI Aayog meeting had broke the deadlock on the proposed India-Bangladesh railway project the Delhi cabinet Ministry had recently sanctioned a total of Rs. 580 crore. According to the master plan amongst the 5 km rail line in the Indian territory an elevated rail line would be constructed stretching 3.7 Km from Dukli to Nishchindapur which would be absolutely an unique experience for the people of the land-locked Tripura and other northeastern states. The rest 1.3 Km line would be laid over the land connecting the Agartala Akahura from where the rest of the rail line would be taken up till Brahmanbaria junction. The official also said that another new Integrated Check Post and immigration centre would be constructed at the Bangladesh border linking Agartala Akhaura. 10,323 teachers' termination case: heari | AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): The next calendar date for the hearing of 10,323 teachers' termination case is scheduled on July 27 in the Supreme Court; uncertainty still prevails over the fate of the terminated teachers. As per scheduled programme, the case will be placed in the registrar’s bench of the Apex Court on Monday. The special leave petition (SLP) challenging the High court of Tripura that terminated the jobs of 10,323 school teachers would be placed before the Apex court for the next hearing on July 27. The SLP will come up for hearing before the court headed by MK Hanjura. Gopal Singh, standing counsel of Tripura in the apex court will represent the state government. Uncertainty looms large over the future of 10,323 teachers working in different government schools of Tripura, whose jobs were cancelled by the High Court with effect from December 31 because of faulty appointment process based on unconstitutional employment policy, on May 7. Terming the job as illegal, a division bench of High Court of Tripura headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta directed the state government to cancel the jobs of the teachers after December and by that time to frame an employment policy within two months and appoint new teachers. | 26-Jul-2015 |
