Tripura gets TATA backed development pro | AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN): The Tripura Left front government finally coming closer to the TATA Trusts had inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TATA Trusts on Thursday evening to expedite socio-economic development initiatives in the state of Tripura and towards sustainable development in the northeastern state of Tripura through the improvement of the quality of life in the state here. 75 years old Indian Businessman Ratan Tata, TATA Trusts Chairman and former Chairman of TATA Group, a Mumbai-based conglomerate on Thursday had signed the agreement with the state department of fisheries, department of industries and commerce, department of Education and the department of Health to broaden the scope and implementation of strategy in all these areas. Ratan Tata interacting with the media persons after inking the pacts said, “I am highly impressed by what one can do in the state like Tripura.†A comprehensive multi-thematic intervention has been designed for the overall development of few blocks. The diary development initiative being taken by the TATA Trusts would focus on promoting diary as a viable livelihood option and strengthening the livelihood of small and marginal farmers. DoNER Secretary R. Vijaykumar visits fly | AGARTALA, July 8 (TIWN): Secretary for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) R. Vijaykumar on Wednesday visited the construction site of first ever flyover at Battala and had urged the concerned engineers for early completion of the work and to maintain quality work. The engineers of entrusted Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) along with the Principal Secretary for state Public Work Department (PWD) Lok Ranjan accompanied Vijaykumar at the ongoing construction work site. Vijaykumar during his visit had also taken a stock of the situation of plan and design of the flyover which would be erected at the capital city, said the official. The construction work has kicked off from the main land here at Battala. The workers of the entrusted company along with the state PWD engineers are actively engaged to the work. But, the daily traffic congestion has become a matter of concern for the state traffic department. Two high level meetings were held earlier at DM office. Talking to TIWN on Wednesday Traffic Superintendent of Police (SP) Smriti Ranjan Das said, “We have increased out traffic personnel at Battala area to restrict the possibility of heavy traffic congestion.†Adding Das said, “We have increased our traffic police from 8 to 14 now.†He also added that the department had planned for three substitutes or alternate roads to restrict the traffic jams from Nagerjala to Battala, which probably can take a giant shape in future during the ongoing construction work of the flyover.The three substitute roads consist of Agartala Amtali bypass road which would allow only the heavy vehicles like trucks, lorries and others. | 08-Jul-2015 |
Rs. 7.03 crore sanctioned for PNG connec | AGARTALA, July 8 (TIWN): Aiming to bring a new revolution to the household kitchens here in the capital city Agartala and to contain the excessive deforestation in rural Tripura; Tripura Natural Gas Company Ltd (TNGCL) has set a target of supplying piped natural gas (PNG) to 4, 000 new households by March 2015, said TNGCL Marketing (Head) Joyjeet Chaudhury. Talking to TIWN on Wednesday Chaudhury said, “Till the year 2015 we have targeted 4,000 households to be connected with the piped natural gas.†The TNGCL had already connected 17, 996 households with the PNG lines till March 31, 2015, he said. At the meantime TNGCL has also targeted to connect at least 10,000 households with the PNG lines by 2016, though Chaudhury said that it has not been confirmed yet. It is worthy to mention here that the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has recently sanctioned Rs. 7.03 crore for the extension of PNG network in and around the Tripura’s capital. The areas which were targeted to be brought under the coverage of piped natural gas lines are Agartala Bhati Abhoynagar, Ujjayn Abhoynagar, Shyamli Bazar, Indranagar, 79 Tilla, Circuit House and South Howrah. It is expected that after the existing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders is replaced with PNG in the city, the cylinders can be distributed to the village areas where the women are still cooking in the mud Chulha using the fire woods. However, Chaudhury further added, “Though we have targeted to link 4,000 households by this year but we are not receiving enough applications and neither any response from the public.†| 08-Jul-2015 |

DoNER Ministry sanctions Rs. 126 crore f | AGARTALA, July 8 (TIWN): The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned a total fund of Rs. 126 crore for the proposed 10 projects here in North Eastern state Tripura, said the senior official. At the meantime arriving here on Tuesday the secretary for DoNER R.Vijaykumar is scheduled to visit several construction sites during his four days stay.A senior official of the state on Tuesday said that the Ministry has already sanctioned fund of Rs. 126 crore for several projects to be implemented here in Tripura.For the improvement of Bishalgarh (NH-44)-Taksapara-Sonamura Road (32 Km) the ministry has sanctioned Rs. 63.10 crore. Whereas for the proposed extension of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network in and around the state capital Rs. 7.03 crore has been sanctioned.Besides, for the most stressed on river valley catchments erosion control project of Howrah River in Tripura, the DoNER ministry had sanctioned Rs. 5.99 crore. The senior official had also said that the second highest fund of Rs. 14.06 crore has been sanctioned by the ministry for water supply arrangement in rural areas of West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala Districts by sinking and development of Deep Tube Well (DTW) schemes including construction of pump houses, installation of pump set and laying distribution pipelines.Interestingly despite sanctioning huge fund by the ministry of DoNER or the Central Government a large section of people of the state are far from the reach of proper drinking water facilities. Tripura launches Wi-Fi hotspot service a | AGARTALA, July 7 (TIWN): With an aim to make an easy access to the internet from any location within the campus, the Tripura Government along with the other states of the North eastern region has launched Wi-Fi hotspot service on Tuesday at Birchandra State Central Library. The move has come up to mark the Digital India Week here in Tripura. Secretary of state higher education department Shantunu Das introduced the service in the library. The service would be maintained by the Information and Technology Department. To strengthen Broadband service, a new plan-hotspot had already been introduced and as many as 173 Wi-Fi hotspots would be installed in the NE to provide service to subscribers, said the official. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) NE-I Circle Chief General Manager D. P. Singh said that amongst the 173 hotspot connections, a total of 94 would be installed here in Tripura. Singh said that the Broadband service would be strengthened in the state very shortly. “To make Broadband service more reliable and faster, BSNL has decided to introduce Broadband hotspots.
