AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): Altogether 1000 sapling has been distributed on Monday, to mark the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister of Tripura Dasharath Deb celebrated at the Dasharath Deb Stadium.
At the programme, the dignitaries have discussed about the biography of Dasharath Deb. To mark the day, with the initiatives of the Dasharath Deb birth anniversary celebration committee, altogether 500 saplings were planted.
As a part of the programme, the committee has distributed a total of 1000 saplings to the people who were present over there to plant the saplings in their home.
Deb was the founder-member of Janashikhsha also called public education movement in Tripura during the royal regime. He was born in the year 1916, died in 1998. He was the first and yet the only tribal CM of Tripura from 1993-98. He fought for tribal rights and became a pioneer in the tribal movement in the Fifties and Sixties.
In 1950, Deb had joined the undivided Communist party and in 1951 and was elected as first party secretary in Tripura. In 1952 he was elected as the MP in Lok Sabha from Tripura. He was re-elected to the LS in 1957, 1962 and 1971.
Dasarath Debbarma was born at Boltali village in the present day Khowai district of Tripura.
Rural Development Minister Naresh Jamatia has presided over the programme, in presence of Minority Development Sahid Choudhury, Welfare of Scheduled Caste Minister Ratan Bhowmik, Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Former Minister Niranjan Debbarma, Former MP Narayan Kar and Khagen Das.
