Tripura to get 2 Volvo buses by Septembe | AGARTALA, July 21 (TIWN): To soothe the passengers of land-locked state, Tripura to get at least two international standard Volvo buses for Agartala-Kolkata direct bus service via Bangladesh flagged off from Dhaka on June 6, Saturday. “We are expecting to get the buses by September first week,†said Secretary for State Transport Samarjit Bhowmik.He said, “We have already placed the order following which they had informed us to deliver the buses by the September.†Adding he also said that the commercial bus service from Agartala to Kolkata via Bangladesh capital Dhaka would be commenced soon once the buses ordered for arrives here.The West Bengal Government had already started the bus service where the Kolkata based bus arrives here at Agartala and takes the Agartala passengers at Kolkata. The fare had not yet been fixed.It is expected that after the Tripura government receives the proposed Volvo buses the fare and other pending issues would be fixed to soothe the passengers demanding for luxury bus to get a trouble-free journey to Kolkata. The bus fare has been fixed at Rs. 2000 for Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala route.The fare was fixed by the West Bengal government to meet their high investment, said official. Govt. unable to protect interest of cons | AGARTALA, July 21 (TIWN):The government unable to protect the interests of consumers who are at the receiving end due to the unbridled power of business enterprises. In practice, the consumers get deficient service even from the very government, be it the state or Union, or the consumer forums and the State Commission which are expected to provide relief to the harassed consumers.In Tripura there are five consumer protection courts – one at Agartala and remaining are at four districts. A total of 354 complaints were lodged by in 2014. Besides the courts are reeling under staff shortages. The usual tactics of lawyers of delaying justice on one pretext or other like just filing vakalat and not filing reply or making false promise of a compromise are not checked by the forums. As per the law, the opposite parties should file their version within a period of 30 days or such extended period by the forum of not exceeding 15 days but this rule is frequently overlooked.Instead of adopting and simplifying the process of filing complaints, many duplication are built into the process.For example, the complainant can directly file the complaint by way of affidavit instead of filing the complaint and thereafter being asked to file the affidavit. NEEPCO to start commercial generation fr | AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): Leaving no stone unturned towards adding feather to the surplus power of Tripura one of the most successful plants of the regional body the North East Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) had kicked off generating another additional 46 Mega Watt (MW) of power from the plant at R C Nagar. Besides, the NEEPCO had planned to start commercial generation of power from the plant by August this year, said head of Project (HoP) Subrata Saha. Talking to TIWN on Monday Saha informed that NEEPCO has recently got the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) clearance and are now planning to start the commercial practise by the month of July. Adding to that he said, “Prior to start the commercial generation we have planned to kick off some testing of the turbines from where the power would be generated and is generating currently.†The entire process would begin from July 22 before starting the commercial generation, he said. NEEPCO has recently installed two broiler turbines and switched on newly implanted turbines producing 46 MW of power from the existing plant at R C Nagar. Flood-hit battle hungers: vent their ire | AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): Anger, frustration and helplessness - these are writ large on the faces of those who suffered massively due to flood of incessant rain from Saturday night. Many victims not only lost their belongings but some also saw their houses come down like a pack of cards as an angry Howrah broke its banks to wreak havoc across Agartala in what was the worst floods in over decades. Several hundred people was shifted to 20 relief camps spread across the state capital. But for the time being they have been forced to think about just their next meal. The anger is mostly directed towards the state government of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who is accused of being completely missing in action when the deluge came. In relief camps as well as colonies where floods caused the maximum damage, people complain in unison about lack of rescue and relief work by the state administration, and other interim measures to alleviate their sufferings.They point out that none of the senior government functionary including Sarkar came to enquire about their well being when they were battling the floods. Tripura awaits for Central funds to init | AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): The proposed India-Bangladesh rail line project work awaits for the release of 60 per cent fund by centre as demanded by Tripura Government, to kick off the land acquisition process. The work would be initiated soon once the state government receives the fund from the centre, said a state transport official.Only 67 acres land is required after the new decision of constructing of elevated corridor has come up recently in the NITI Aayog meeting. The official said that the state government had demanded to release at least 60 per cent of the total fund so that the land acquisition work can be started soon without any further delay.Project cost had been reduced from Rs. 302 crore to Rs. 97 crore as an elevated rail track would be laid for the first of its kind here in North east Tripura. The long persuaded India-Bangladesh railway link is all set to offer a unique experience of elevated railway corridor where people of the land-locked state would get a metro rail like taste for the first of its kind.Asserting that the Indo-Bangla railway extension track will have both facilities- MG and BG, he said a station would be established at Nischintapur where trains of both nations will stop to exchange passengers.The 15-km-long Agartala-Akhaura railway route would connect Indian Railways with the Bangladesh Railways through the North-East which would improve connectivity and boost trade between two countries.A team of Railway Ministry has already visited the alignment of the proposed Indo-Bangla rail link to push the project. | 19-Jul-2015 |

Monarchak power plant shuts down due to | AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): On yet another hit to the power surplus state of North East Tripura the 100 MW gas-based Monarchak power plants in West Tripura district, about 50 km from here have undergone complete shutdown due to crisis of gas from ONGC. “The plant which was opened spending huge amount would face a hefty loss now as there is no further change of gas supply to the plant,†said a reliable source of Monarchak plant on Sunday.,The source informed that the management would soon take up the matter with the ministry to take a stock of the situation as the plant would face a heavy loss in the coming days. On July 11 the ONGC held a meeting with the plant management committee here in Agartala taking up the issue of the crisis of gas. ONGC had assured that by mid August they would try to resume its gas supply after recovering their old gas wells, said source. He said that as per the agreement, ONGC is supposed to supply 5 MMSCM per day gas to the plant but the supply has been stopped for the past few days. The source also added, “Though ONGC had assured us to resume gas supply but there is very less chance as the current situation of ONGC is not up to the mark and had lead our plant in danger.†He said that at present the entire system is shutdown due to the suspension of the gas. | 19-Jul-2015 |

Barman referring to the announcement of the 5 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) accused the Left front government and claimed that it has deflected Rs. 1473.12 crore in the past five years from 2009-10 FY till 2013-14 FY. The Left front government blaming the then Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram clarified that Tripura Government had demanded Rs. 2, 200 crore additional funds for implementation of the sixth pay commission for the state government employees from him, but he refused to meet the demands. HC to hear RMSA scamster Ambalika†| AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): A senior Tripura education department woman official was arrested for allegedly embezzling more than Rs.4 crore from a central government scheme, but interestingly scamster Ambalika Dutta managed to find an easy escape from the police custody as she was admitted to IGM hospital in the name of illness. She was supposed to be produced before the court on Saturday but she managed to stay in hospital safe despite the doctor prepared to discharge her, said police officer.Talking to senior police officer on Saturday evening in this regard, TIWN was informed that Ambalika who was arrested on July 14 managed to stay safe at hospital till today simply in the name of illness and stomach pains whereas the attending doctors had prepared on Saturday to release her.On Saturday morning at around 10 am Amabilika again reported the doctors that she is suffering from a severe stomach pain following which the doctors again had to admit her and prescribed medicines, said the police officer.He said, “Even today we are unable to produce her before the court and probably she will remain admit even tomorrow, though we are keeping eye on it; but we cannot get her produced before the court until the doctors release her.â€The officer also said that Ambalika filed a bail petition before the High Court recently following which the HC would hear the bail plea onJuly 22.
