AGARTALA, June 11 (TIWN): Agartala city has been virtually flooded with drugs, illegal arms, and of course mafia groups. Another picture of the smiling city is attractive with 2/3 storied buildings, luxurious cars. Drug addiction has been rising among the section of college students, girl students, house wives and drop out boys.

On the other hand a good number of youths have been gradually falling under the grip of opium. Opium is available in each and every parts of greater Agartala. Ganja is comparatively cheap than drinks. It is also another reason to indulge people in addiction.

While a good number of youths are under the grip of ganja, addiction is alarmingly increasing among a  section of auto drivers, drop out boys, day labourers and school bus drivers .Moreover a section of college girls’ and house wives’ attraction have been increasing for  ganja. Ganja is selling like hot cake.

In capital Agartala there are few places where  drug addicted boys, girls are smoking ganja randomly in open day light. So far information the places, where smoking of ganja become day to day feature are Lake chowmohoni, Battala, Math chowmohoni, Stable Ground, Radhanagar, forefront of heritage park and school adjacent abandon ground, Umakanta stadium  ,front side of Tulsibati school ,motor stand, GB area,79 tilla area, Gurkha basti, Malanchanibas ground and some temples side area. 

 Two month’s long study shows that a ganja 'potla' around 5 gram is availed just at Rs. 20/30.Minimum 5/6 boys can smoke it for 30 minitues. Opium has various varieties.

Prices also differ. TIWN spoke to many addicted collage boys, even college girls, auto drivers in different times, in different places. According to them one 'CHILIM' can smoke by 5/6,taking 30 minutes time. One 'CHILIM' is sufficient for them at least for 5/6 hours. A boy of 25 claimed GANJA is safe than Fenchidil. It is economically also better and cheapest.

A college girl asked what is wrong with the smoking Ganja? After smoking they feel relaxed and moody.     

All these are going on in front of police. Police is just observing and virtually enjoying the whole scenario. Admitting the fact, a top police officer said that they are aware of these happenings .But they can’t stop it or resist for some reasons. However police will go for action very shortly, said the police officer. 

Activities of the Mafia are being stepped up recently after the gap of 8/9 months. Mafias are now active in land sale and purchasing. Most of the mafia bears pistols and other arms.79 till  raid is recent  example.

 No land owners are free if they desire to sale land or lease. There are reports, if anybody desires to sale his property he should convey it to them or club and thus they become a middle man, for dealing of property and earning from both sides (seller and purchaser). 

No outsiders are allowed to drop a tender without understanding with local group that is known as negotian / mafia group. As a result, due to fear outsider companies now have been avoiding tenders. Though state Govt. introduced e tender system but awardees have to understanding with the so called group.
