KAILASHAHAR, June 11 (TIWN): Superstitious belief gripped over the people of Patur Bazaar of Kailashahar. The locals of the area joined in a road blockage and boycotted at Patur Bazaar New Motor Stand demanding to recover a missing bull.
The number of superstitious belief is enormous in Tripura as the society includes various kinds of religious people along with different cultures, ethics and beliefs. Certain superstitious beliefs are in practice for so long time that people have become accustomed to it. And if any one tries to make them realize about the uncertainty of the belief, insecurity started to occur in their mind.
Locals of Patur Bazaar on Thursday joined in a road blockage and boycotted at New Motor Stand, Patur Bazaar. They blocked the tri-junction for continuous one hour demanding to recover the missing bull. The blockage of the tri-junction has paralyzed the transportation of the area.
Identifying the critical situation, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ajit Sukla Das and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sutipta Das rushed to the spot. The agitated public demanded to recover the missing bull. Hearing to the public Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ajit Sukla Das asked for 7 days to recover the bull and brought the situation under control.
Narrating about the incident the local stated that the bull was residing at the Mahadev Bari of Kailashahar, the people who have been visiting the temple had a faith on it. They further said that prior to two year the bull was once stolen just before Eid but the locals had successfully manage found the bull.
Similarly, there are many such cases all over the state where superstitious belief has paralyzed the scientific initiative over the area. Despite of several initiatives taken by the Government to provide medical service to the people, they prefer to go for witch-craft. There many tribal communities still practice indigenous faiths and resort to such rituals in treating the sick within the community.
There are many people who left uninhabited because of ‘Vastu’ problem; they even set their objects in the house according to the instructions given by astrologers. Superstitious beliefs have been the biggest block in the path to a healthy society of the state.
Even today, in various parts of the state people drinks contaminated water in the name of holy water with a belief that it would cure all their diseases. The phenomenon ‘witch-craft’ claims several lives but still the superstitious belief does not omit from the mind of the people.
Superstitions also lead to the exploitation of common people by clever "Sadhus and Tantrics". They also lead to caste bias and discriminations. There are many youths who are practicing superstition in the capital which leads to the exploitation of the innocent people hampering the progress of science in the area.
Practicing such kind of illicit acts like superstitious beliefs and black magic harms the state’s reputation. In spite of the increase in literacy as well as advancement in the field of science like medical science, technology and astronomy this kind of superstitious beliefs bring disgrace to the state.
