AMARPUR, June 12 (TIWN): Blackouts are a frequent occurrence in many interior parts of the state because of shortage of power and an antiquated electricity grid. At the same time, many of the people living in villages of the interior part of the state have no access to the electricity grid at all.
Hot summer and a deficient monsoon season have increased the demand for power as farmers irrigate fields in rural areas and residents run their fan far longer than usual.
The localites alleged that the power requirements have failed to keep pace with the demands of an expanding economy and a growing population of the village. As a result, power disruption for several hours a day has become a routine the state.
Reportedly, to put an end to the power crisis of the area, the Electric Department with all pomp and gaiety has laid the foundation stone for the construction of electric sub-station at Chelagangmukh under Amarpur sub-division in the year 2013 but even after the passage of years there is no construction of any sub-station in the area.
The localites alleged that to grab votes from the public, the foundation stone was laid ahead of the assembly election for the name sake and so far no work progress is witnessed in the allocated area.
The power shortage is increasing and it has already worsened in the last two to three months. Especially during the moderate rainfall the power service gets disrupted in the area and resumes only after two to three days. Apart from disruption of power cut during the rains, the localites do not get any prompt solution to the problem related to any other electric congestion of the area. Apart, they are hit with the problem of low voltage, alleged localites.
However, the localites demanded to resume the work of 33/11 KV-electric sub-station at Chelagangmukh under Amarpur sub-division as early as possible or else they will place the matter to the higher authority in the coming days.
