Prime Minister, Finance Minister warned | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Sep 17 (TIWN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned tax evaders to file undeclared taxes by Sep 30 or face actions during his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio address in June’16. PM said “We lose our peace by violating rules, why not give correct information about our income and assets to Govt?â€. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley last week warned tax evaders and high tax evasion could mean that the standard rate of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) may remain high. Union Government was serious about the issue, it put out advertisements in leading national dailies on Sunday requesting citizens to declare their undisclosed assets before September 30, 2016, starting from June 1, 2016. L.C. Joshi Ranee, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT) said on Friday at Agartala that "Stern actions would be taken and penalty would be imposed on the people, who do not declare their deposits and assets by September 30 under the IDS," However, in spite of Union Govt’s seriousness and PCIT’s warning,a whooping 57000 tax-evaders remain in Tripura out of approx. 1 lakh Tax payers. Union Govt's bold initiative to boost Tr | AGARTALA / KOLKATA, Sep 17 (TIWN): Tea Board'simplementation of payment module for pan-India tea auctions to help Tripura's tea growers for better pricing across country. The Tea Board of India on Friday said that the payment settlement under Pan India e-auction, which was inaugurated in June, has been implemented successfully in seven auction centres. The introduction of post settlement module from Wednesday has ensured that all payments involving auction of tea would be on-line through Bank of India, the designated settlement bank for payments, it said. Prior to introduction of this system, the auction centres, located at Kolkata, Guwahati, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Cochin, Coimbatore and Coonoor, were having separate arrangements with the different banks for processing of payments manually."Since, no end to end integration of the bank system with the auction module was in place, the initiative will make the entire auction process on line starting from pre-sale activities up to issuance of delivery orders to the buyers," said a statement of the Board.The average price realisation after the implementation of the Pan India auction is Rs 143.63 per kg (Sale No.25 to 36) compared to Rs 136.48 per kg for the corresponding sales of the previous year. | 17-Sep-2016 |

CBI’s proactive actions in Bengal | KOLKATA / AGARTALA, Sep 16 (TIWN): CBI’s active roles in Kolkata surprising many in Tripura as this central agency failed to pursue Rs 1273 crores Chit Funds scams by Rose Valley and other cheating comoanies. The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested three former directors of two Kolkata-based private companies Sarad, Rose Valley in an ongoing investigation related to two chit fund scam cases on Thursday. A CBI spokesperson said the accused had hatched a criminal conspiracy alongside others and illegally collected approximately Rs 565 crore from poor investors after fraudulently promising them high returns without any permission from regulatory bodies. In pursuance of that, they allegedly committed cheating and criminal misappropriation of public funds, the spokesperson said. The case was registered on June 6, 2014, on the orders of the Supreme Court dated 9.5.2014 passed in a writ petition against the officials of the said company.During the ongoing investigation into another chit fund case, CBI officers arrested a former director of another Kolkata based private company for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy and illegally collecting approximately Rs 60 crore from poor investors by promising high returns, without any permission from the regulatory bodies. | 16-Sep-2016 |
