AGARTALA, Sep 16 (TIWN): Within a gap of month, petrol crisis is again back in Tripura, resulting huge anger among the bikers and daily commuters. A sudden crisis emerged at Agartala BOCs since Thursday morning, hitting the normality of everyday lives. This unscheduled crisis hit public hard as moving from one petrol pump to another, people were hunting for fuel. The word “petrol crisis†haunting Tripura like terror as daily transportations to essential commodity prices all jacked up. Evenafter the recovery of NH-44, petrol via train, Fuel via Bangladesh the crisis is existing & tension of further petrol crisis is making the lines bigger and bigger before petrol pumps. A pump dealer said, due to few holidays continuously, the crisis hit again, but that story is not at all believable as state would have much stocks of petrol after National Highway recovery. Just few weeks back Tripura recovered from 5 months of petrol crisis as the damaged section of the Assam-Agartala national highways was in pitiable shape, leads to the shortage of essential commodities.
On August 18, Indian Oil signed an MoU with the Roads and Highways Dept of Bangladesh to transport petroleum products in tank trucks by road from Meghalaya to Tripura through Bangladesh. Modi Govt.’s proactive initiatives and strong diplomatic relations with Bangladesh helped to resolve fuel crisis but Manik Sarkar Govt’s corrupt machineries failed to stop black-marketing causing artificial crisis.
Taking the opportunity the black marketing of fuel spiked up, especially at major cities Agartala, Dharmanagar, Udaipur, Kailashahar areas. However, the Thursday crisis is being seen as a warning sign for more sufferings ahead of Durga puja.
After morning hours on Thrusday, at Ganaraj Chowmuhani petrol pump & Radhanagar Petrol Pump started to barter petrol. However, from 11 AM Durga Bari Petrol pump also provided petrol but before every petrol pumps long queues were observed, crossing more than 500 people at Ganaraj Chowmuhani, Durga Bari Petrol pump.
Tripura government on that time of crisis had enforced a rationing system for petroleum products but the measure failed to ease the situation with the massive demand.
Meanwhile, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) proposed that petroleum products be routed through Bangladesh to Tripura. However, Indian Oil reached Tripura via Bangladesh on 9th September.10 tank trucks carried diesel, kerosene and LPG for Tripura via Bangladesh.
But after all these no good fortune for Tripura people has yet arrived, as the back-marketing of fuel, petrol, LPG are unchecked.
