Sufferings continue: Malaria prevails at Teliamura

Teliamura, June 24 (TIWN): Even after the Tripura Government and the Health and Family Welfare department of Tripura has adopted the measures of providing free treatment to the malaria patients in the interiors of the state it is seen that the malaria effected patients are still carrying out treatment from the private section of doctors.

Such a similar incident is reported from Teliamura. It is to be mentioned here that Priyota Bhowmik (13) resident of Rajkumar chowdhury para under Teliamura came to Teliamura Gramin Hospital with her father for doing check-up as she was suffering with fever for last 5 days. Seeing the critical condition of the hospital, the helpless father decided to meet the doctor at the private complex of the hospital for treating his daughter from Malaria.

The in-charge doctor of the hospital Mrinal after diagnosing the victim asked for doing blood test soon. The father carried out the blood test from a private pathology. However, after blood test she was reported with Malaria virus in her.

Now, question arise why the daily wage earner father has carried out pathological test from private section and has spent an amount of Rs.750 for treatment even after free medical aid was suppose to be provided to the Malaria affected patient.

The Tribal populations do not complete the full course of drugs, malaria become drug resistant and once a mosquito bites them, it can infect others. Many malaria cases are reported even in winter because of this phenomenon.

As temperature soars in several water borne diseases have hit the remote areas of the state creating panic among the tribal hamlets and others.

As May-June is peak season for jhum cultivation the tribals’ are toiling on fields that are swarmed with mosquitoes, the tribals do not wear clothes that fully cover their bodies, hence they are susceptible to mosquito bites.

With no lesson learned from the previous episode here in Tripura where as many as villagers of the hilly terrain breathed their lasts effected with malaria germs, the State Left Front Government had failed to bring the epidemic down yet today. Though of course the number of patients has come down, but the outbreak still prevails in the remote villages of the state.

It seems that the state government have not learnt any lessons from the last year’s Malaria Outbreak debacles and did not bothered to spend the released amount of central fund to prepare in a better way for the next year.  All the North Eastern states usually receives huge amounts of central assistance for Health purposes but the inefficient and corrupt  local management under the state health department  leads to deplorable health status of the society.
