Construction work for Tripura's 1st flyover begins, engineers and agency staffs visit site at Battala

AGARTALA, June 24 (TIWN): The construction work of the first ever flyover in Tripura capital is currently underway and is expected to kick off in a full-fledged manner by this week. Getting a green signal from the state Public Work Department (PWD) the departmental engineers along with the entrusted Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) have taken up the construction work for building Rs. 250 crore flyover linking AD Nagar police lines with Fire Brigade Square in the city's busiest stretch of road. Tripura, which is one of the most peaceful states in the Northeast, has one of the fastest growing economies in the region. To contain the increasing number of vehicles, populations, offices and others the Left front govt. has taken up an ambitious project of building flyover at the Agartala city. The 2.2 kms flyover, which is expected to ease the growing traffic congestion, will be completed in 30 months time. The estimated cost of the building the flyover is Rs 250 crore.The construction work for building the flyover had kicked off at Agartala Battala with the engineers of the state government here along with the Nagarjuna Construction Company agency staffs actively engaged to the work which is expected to be completed by 30 months. Flyover will start from Drop Gate (Fire Service office), is scheduled to touch Fire Brigade Chowmuhani via Battala. A subway of the fly over will be constructed upto Melarmath. As per the layout of the project, the Banayan tree and the temple at Battala will be remained untouched by the fly over.As many as 100 pillars will cover the 2.5 km fly over.

Once fly over is constructed, vehicles from the Nagerjala bus stand will continue to ply on the same path.

 It means the vehicles leaving Nagerjala will not be allowed to catch the fly over to avoid traffic congestion, said the officials. According to the officials the construction work would start in a full-fledged manner by this week.

A preliminary meeting was held recently at Agartala DM office with the Tripura Traffic department along with the Municipality staffs and other remained present during the meeting held to undertake the precautionary measures prior to the kick off of the construction work.

It is worthy to be mentioned here that earlier Chief Minister Manik Sarkar laying the foundation stone of the flyover had urged the entrusted construction company to maintain the quality and had said that there would be no compromise with the quality of the work. Sarkar also mentioned that the women labours would not be allowed to work during the night hours.

The project has gone to Hyderabad-based Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited through a national tender. Since they are already engaged in advanced construction work in Agartala like the NIT, and others the state government here flooring the tender hadf entrusted to undertake the work for building the flyover at the Agartala city.

The first ever 2-lane flyover in the capital city will lower the traffic jam by at least 40% to 45% and it will make a smooth fast track movement of the vehicles.

According to the section of city dwellers fly over bridge, would be blessing for the people living in Agratala city, as the pupils can never be on time in their office or school due to the tremendous traffic issue. Mainly the Battala station, which have junction of more than four roads passing and connecting to a single road have been causing the maximum traffic jam.

The main motive of creating the Fly-Over Bridge is to seek the solution for maintaining the Traffic system in the city. As day by day the population and the number of vehicles are increasing, the problems arise in traffic system too.

However, after having all this barriers in the political issued, finally the people of Tripura will soon get the first Fly-over Bridge connecting the Dropgate to the Fire service station into the city. And finally the increasing rate of Traffic Jamming issued is likely to be solved within 3 years.
