AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): A total of 92,146 voters would caste vote for the by-elections in two assembly constituencies here in Tripura Pratapgarh and Surma. Amongst the 92, 146 voters, 50004 are from Pratapgarh constituency and 42142 voters are from Surma constituency, said State Election Commissioner S K Rakesh on Wednesday.Tripura to go for by-elections poll on June 27 at 62 polling stations at Pratapgarh constituency and another 54 polling stations at Surma constituency. Around 600 polling personals would be engaged to the election procedure, Rakesh told to reporters here at the civil secretariat on Wednesday.The elections for the two constituencies on June 27 would start from 8:00 AM and would continue till 5:00 PM and the counting of votes would be held on June 30. The commission has decided that the voter’s identification shall be mandatory in the aforementioned by-elections at the time of poll. Electoral photo identity card (EPIC) shall be the main document of identification of a voter. However, later talking to the reporters S K Rakesh informed that the central paramilitary forces would be deployed inside the polling stations on June 27 and the TSRs along with the state police would be deployed outside the polling stations. The elections will be completed by July 2, 2015, EC issued.To ensure greater transparency and avoid confusion in the minds of voters, the Election Commission has decided that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would henceforth display images of the contestants along with their names and party symbols
The new system would be operational for the first time during the June 27 byelections to six assembly constituencies in five states comprising of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and Tripura.
