KAILASAHAR, June 26 (TIWN): It was a celebration time in Kailsahar jail when two prisoners of the same jail did wonders in painting at the premises of jail. The main theme of their painting was “Hate the sin, not the sinnerâ€. The two prisoners are identified as Sudip Sil and Indrajit Das. Both the prisoners are imprisoned for 6 and 12 years respectively.
The prison reformers say that art can play a part in changing around inmate’s lives and make them less likely to re-offend.
Both of them have spent hours, lovingly adorning the walls of the jail unit and also prepared banners and posters for the jail authority.
The main theme of their painting translates roughly "With love for mankind and hatred of sins." The phrase has become more famous as "love the sinner but hate the sin" or "hate the sin and not the sinner"
Painting brings out your colorful creativity in ways that feel calming and soothing. Painters report more serenity and peace of mind compared with non-painters, said the prisoners.
Both the prisoners Sudip Sil and Indrajit Das were guilty for serious crimes and for them painting is a kind of measure for gaining peace and tranquility.
There are all together 75 prisoners in the jail. However, both Sudip Sil and Indrajit Das have made a plea to open an Art school in the jail so that they can teach painting to the prisoners which can act as rehabilitation.
Jail superintendent Santosh Bahadur expressed happiness over the development of prisoners in the jail and said that he has talked to the jail authority to open an Art centre in the jail.
He further said that over past many days the prisoners are concentrating on making banners and posters for the jail and has done excellent painting in last few years of imprisonment.
