AGARTALA, June 24 (TIWN): Controlling traffic chaos on the streets is now limited to holding meetings and seminar at the AC Packed room by the Traffic officials. Apart from taking any action on the streets for curbing the traffic congestion the traffic officials are busy in organizing meeting and seminar.

A section of people raised voice against the traffic police officers as to why have they turned a blind eye towards glaring traffic rule violations in the heart of Agartala city. Resentment brewed up among the locals observing that a large number of vehicles parked illegally at the no-parking zone and on the main carriageways hindering the movement of other vehicles.

Vehicles parked on the roadside in the no-parking zone in the congested areas, especially in commercial hubs, has narrowed the space on roads that can be used by motorists and pedestrians.

On the other hand, no action is taken against vehicles parked in no-parking zones in the select places and the offenders go unpunished at quite a few important locations in the city as the traffic police area allegedly not performing their duty for curbing the traffic chaos apart from

Interestingly it is seen that government vehicles were openly parked in the no-parking zone including the public as well as personnel vehicles and Traffic department is playing the role of silent spectator. Day after day the traffic officials are organizing rally; awareness campaign and eviction drive with the prime aim to aware the people with the traffic rules and regulations but everything appears to be a game of “first day first show” and after that the saga of traffic congestion continues on the streets under the eye of traffic department.

Speaking in the seminar on May 31, 2015 at Matangini Pritilata hall, the concerned member once said that the traffic department has identified the two most popular roads of the Agartala city. The road from Airport to the University which covers Natunnagar, capital complex, Haradhan Sangha, Colonel Choumuhani, Nagerjala, AD Nagar, ONGC, Hapania, Amtali to Tripura University and the other road is from Battala to Asram Chowmuhani these are two particular roads which are mostly crowded with vehicles and there is continuous movement of vehicles at any hour of the day and steps will be taken to develop the smooth movement of traffic, but it seems that the tall claims are now limited to the seminar itself and no action is taken so far.

Parking of vehicles at the no parking zone, on the roadsides causes inconvenience to smooth traffic movement, and more seriously to vulnerable pedestrians. Widened portions of the roads get fully occupied for parking and create clogging on either side the road. The school buses are randomly witnessed parking the school bus in any side of the road and also being stopped at side of the road, may be in front of a house, shop, office for loading and unloading of the students, which creates mismanagement in the traffic movement and the traffic department is least bothered to take any action.
