AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): IPFT state president N C Debbarma on Friday blamed the election commissioner for District Council in wake of the poll for not taking remedial action against the ruling CPI-M in order to conduct free, fair and peaceful election on May 3.Debbarma blaming the EC on Saturday claimed, “The election commissioner for District Council is not playing his neutrality towards making the poll free and fair.” Adding to that Debbarma accusing the ruling CPI-M said that in wake of the poll the party supporters at some parts of the ADC areas have made an attack on the IPFT supporters.

Debbarma also mentioned that some of the supporters of IPFT were badly injured by the CPI-M supporters and left them hospitalized. He said one Manoj Debbarma was admitted to GBP hospital but he would need further treatment as his condition is critical.

However later denying to incident where a section of IPFT youth supporters are reported to have threatened some villagers at Khowai Ramchandraghat, Debbarma on Saturday said, “As of now no complaint has been lodged against any of the IPFT supporters.”

He said that it is the ruling CPI-M who has made an attack on the IPFT supporters and had staged a malicious campaign against the IPFT.

“But, inspite of complaining this with the election commissioner to District Council, the Election Commission has not taken any remedial action against the CPI-M,” Debbarma said.

However, adding that Debbarma on Saturday speaking to the newsmen at Press Club appealed the EC to conduct free and fair election on May 3 acting neutral to the political parties of the state.

Debbarma also said that if the election on Sunday is being conducted with at least 80% free and fair manner than the IPFT would set a victory to the general election to the TTAADC.

Set up in 1982, the 30-member TTAADC has 28 seats filled through direct election while two members are nominated by the government. Twenty-seven seats in the council are reserved for tribals. With 175 candidates in the fray, May 3 is likely to witness a multi-cornered contest which is being seen as a mini-general assembly polls in India's only Left-ruled state.

The CPI-M -led Left Front, which has also been ruling the TTAADC since 2005, has nominated candidates on all the 28 seats. The opposition Congress and the BJP have also fielded nominees on all the seats. Two tribal-based parties -- Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) -- would also contest the polls on all the seats.

Unlike the Congress and BJP, the CPI-M possesses a substantial base both among the tribals and non-tribals helping the Left party to govern the state since 1978 except for five years (1988-1993).
