TTAADC Election:  Polling parties reached polling stations amidst tight security. High alert on the eve of TTAADC poll

AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): State administration geared up for the general election to TTAADC to be held on Sunday. All the polling personnel assigned to the election have made their way to their destination at all the polling booths on Saturday.Besides, the police had already set up an elaborate arrangements with 21 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces along with other security forces and the local police are deployed across the state to maintain law and order situation during the poll on Sunday.The voting to ADC will commence from 8 AM on Sunday and would be continued till 5 PM. In the TTAADC Election, the total number of candidates contesting is counted as 175. Nearly 6 thousand election workers were employed for 1070 polling booths.A total of 7. 85 lakhs voters would decide the fate of the candidates. 16 observers had been appointed to 28 district council constituencies for the smooth conduct of the election.To ensure a violence free election and to avoid any pre­-poll untoward incidents, a full proof security arrangement has been made by the administration, said an official source. To drop infiltration through Indo-Bangla international boundary in state at zero, Border Security Force (BSF) put the border on high alert.

To conduct a free, fair and peaceful ADC election, around   21 companies of armed Central Para­ Military Force will be deployed in the polling stations, strong rooms and counting halls while a vast contingent of TSR jawans and police personnel would maintain the general law and order during the election, the source informed

It is to be mention here that the TTAADC election will be conducted on May3. Counting will be held on May 6," The TTAADC was formed in January 1982 under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution and later its powers were promoted by amending the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in August 1984 to protect and safeguard the political, economic and cultural interests of the tribals. The tribal council constitutes two third of the state territory and home to the tribals who form one third of the population.

Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Act 1979 was passed by the Indian parliament after a series of democratic movements launched by the Indigenous people of Tripura. The principle objective behind setting up the Autonomous District Council is to empower the Indigenous people to govern themselves and also to bring all round developments of the backward people so as to protect and preserve their culture, customs and traditions.
