AMARPUR/AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): Vote comes and vote goes but the problem of the rural people remains same. A section of poor people residing in the remote rural ADC areas in Amarpur sub-division have been suffering from acute drinking water crisis for long time.
According to the villagers, over 500 families of Dalak, Lalgiri, Malbasa, Paschim Duluma and Sarbang ADC villages in Amarpur subdivision have been facing drinking water crisis badly from the beginning of the dry-season. But the concerned authority remained silent over the issue.
The locals alleged that most of the mark-II water sources are remained nonfunctional so far. The concerned authority does not take necessary initiative to restore them. In such situation, the residents of those ADC villages are bound to collect unhygienic drinking water from stream sources resulting water borne diseases like diarrhea, cholera, Residents fume over drinking water crisis added the locals. Even, the incumbent Left Front ruled ADC does not have sufficient time to solve the prolonged water crisis problem, said local villagers.
The residents further alleged that, the political leaders are use to make false commitment going door to-door before any election and collect votes from the deprived people. But immediately after the election, they avoids to fulfill the commitments and remain busy with strengthening the personnel bank accounts by misappropriating a huge public fund, they added. Most of the hilly areas of the state are yet to be covered with drinking water facility.
