KAILASHAHAR, May 5 (TIWN): Unchecked corruptions and scams now encouraging a section of corrupt officials to indulge in further corruptions in Tripura. Even though Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, “There is no room for corruption in Tripura” but it just shows the opposite. As it was expected, the National Health Mission scam unearthed at Unakoti District had no further development in its investigation. Asked about the current status of the NHM scam investigation, a police source on Monday talking to TIWN told, “As earlier it was said that the police has handed over the case with CID, but the order has not yet come.” Adding to that the source also said, “Due to the ADC election the investigation to the NHM scam has got hampered as the police personnel are assigned in election duty.”NHM (National Health Mission) Mission Director Dr. Sandeep N Mahatme filed FIR against 17 Medical officials for direct involvement in Rs. 3 crores funds embezzlement in Kailashahar and North Tripura. Dr. Mahatme filed FIR against 17 Doctors, Senior Officials on April 7 evening.FIR filed against 12 Medical officials of North District CMO office and 5 Medical officials of Unakoti District CMO office including Former CMO Unakoti Dr. Dilip Das, Present CMO Dr Alak Dewan, Dr Subhas Barua, Dr. S.N. Chaudhury, Dr. Debashis Talapatra.

A major financial scam involving 18 officials for Rs. 4.47 crores misappropriation as part of Rs. 24.26 crores NHM funds on the eve of TTAADC election had rocked the entire Unakoti District. Barely the Left front govt. has come out from the shock of Bishalgarh RD Block multi crore scam, another major embezzlement of money has come under the limelight this time with the Mission Director of National Health Mission Dr. Sandeep Mahatme lodged an FIR against at least 18 officials here. Earlier Congress Chief Birajit Sinha demanded for a stern action against the FIR named Chief Medical officers and MOICs. Sinha alleged, “The figure of the looted amount has been shown less to curtain the entire Rs 30 crores scam under NHM in Unakoti District.” He further alleged that not only the CMOs but also other official staffs, CPM leaders are involved in organized looting.

A senior Police official also said, “As of now only some documents were seized and a strict verification of those is needed. The case has become quite complicated for the police to investigate it, and as a result the case was handed over with the CID.”

However, this had of course proved it clear that the corrupted officials under the NHM at Unakoti district against whom the FIR was lodged with the police has gained a momentum from the delay and negligence investigation of the police. After all “Except Bishalgarh RD Block scam there are no other Blocks tainted with corruption” earlier said by Manik Sarkar.

Tripura Police have launched an investigation into an alleged funds scam to the tune of Rs 4.47 crore in the National Health Mission (NHM) following an FIR by NHM mission director on the month of April first. It has been learnt that a team of senior level officers are engaged to its investigation, but yet today no arrest has been made.

According to the source the accused medical officers are engaged in different hospitals of the district. The fund was given for procuring medicines, implementing various schemes under NHM in the district and construction works in rural hospitals. But it has been found that at least 17 officials under the NHM (Unakoti District) could not submit the utilization certificate with proper receipt and payment statements.

Even after the passage of maximum days that the scam was brought under the limelight and the FIR was lodged against 17 NHM officials, police was found to have brought no further development to its investigation. The police have not yet arrested the tainted officials even after the FIR was lodged against them leading them the gateway to their escape from the case.
