Massive achievement in fresh plantation | AGARTALA, March 31 (TIWN): Against all odds, the forest department under Ambassa forest division has achieved a massive success in raising new plantation, maintenance of old forest, roadside and river bank plantation during the current financial year. During the year 2014-15, the Ambassa forest division has set a target of 1050 hector new plantation besides maintain ace of 1200 hectares old forest. Tripura's 5th Women PS opens at Belonia | BELONIA, March 30 (TIWN): 5th women police station of the state was inaugurated today at Belonia under South District, with Director General of Police (DG) K. Nagaraj. Alongwith DGP, SP South Bhanupada Chakroborty, Dakhin Zilla Sabhadipati Himangshu Roy, DIG (Southern Sector) Uttam Majumder and other senior officials remained present. The women police station at the Belonia at present consists of a total of 22 staffs with Officer-in-charge Mofru Mog Choudhuri and 3 sub inspectors. Addressing the inauguration programme today, DG K. Nagaraj said that the crimes against women are rampant at Belonia with more than 50% as compared to other areas under the South district. Monarchak 101 MW power plant begins test | AGARTALA, March 30 (TIWN): Gas based NEEPCO Monachak 101 MW power plant under Sonamura Sub-Division started its test run power generation with 15 MW of power out of 65 MW from Saturday. According to the sources from Monarchak, the power generation from the plant could not reach to the 65 MW with its capacity in initial stage. However later on Saturday night a decision was taken to increase its capacity from 15 MW to 65MW. But as the amount of power generated on the first day wouldn’t meet the demand and cannot be put into use, so the capacity was not increased further. Talking to TIWN on Saturday evening, NEEPCO Project Head & General Manager S R Biswas said that at present the turbines were running in full speed and it will synchronized again on Sunday evening, as asked by the Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (TNGCL). The total capacity of the power plant at Monarchak is 101 MW,out of which 65 MW of power will generated through gas from the ONGC and the rest 36 MW of power will be generated using the waste gas. The same procedure was taken up at Palatana OTPC.It is to be mentioned here that earlier Biswas said that, the gas transparency arrangement made by the ONGC to supply gas to the Monarchak, will not meet the gas turbine system at present. | 30-Mar-2015 |

Another 10, 000 MT of rice from Kolkata | AGARTALA, March 29 (TIWN): Food Corporation of India (FCI) to ferry another 10, 000 metric ton of rice to Tripura via Bangladesh on March 31, as the train services in the northeastern states have been stopped in southern part of northeast region due to gauge conversion. Talking to TIWN today DM (West) informed that the FCI will hold a meeting on March 30 in regard of supplying the rice to Tripura, which will reach here through Bangaladesh Ashuganj port.Tripura government has urged the central government to carry rice for the state regularly via Bangladesh till the railway's gauge conversion works are completed. “We want to create a buffer stock of food grain in Tripura before beginning of the monsoon,†said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhanulal Saha earlier. The monsoon starts in June and it continue up to September creating a gigantic problem in ferrying food grains, essentials and other goods from other parts of India to northeast via mountainous roads, as the areas are very landslide prone and jagged condition.It is worthy to be mentioned here that the FCI last year ferried 10,000 tonnes of rice in two phases to Tripura from Visakhapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh via Bangladesh. TTAADC election likely on May first wee | AGARTALA, March 28 (TIWN): The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election likely to be held on the month of May first week if everything moves on a right track, with the political parties of the state have started campaigning on a full swing amidst allegations of deteriorating law and order ahead of the ADC poll. Leaving aside the part of the campaign in which the regional party, Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), has created ripples by demanding a separate state, "Twipraland", to be carved out of the ADC areas, the ruling CPI (M) along with other parties have alleged "terror tactics" by CPM cadres and "inaction by police" and resultant lawlessness and insecurity.According to the sources, the Chief Election Officer of the state S. K. Rakesh held a meeting with the 16 Returning Officers of the ADC area and the DMs recently, where it was decided (not final) that if everything falls on a right track the ADC election would be held during the first week of May, 2015. It is worthy to be mentioned here that earlier on March 19, CEO SK Rakesh held a meeting with all the political parties of the state and received several suggestions related to the ADC election schedule. 4-day long North East NSS Festival begi | AGARTALA, March 28 (TIWN): North East NSS festival, organized by the state NSS Cell in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India kick starts today at Agartala with a colorful rally walked across the capital city. The rally started from the premises of Birchandra State Library. Minister of state Youth Affairs and Sports Sahid Chodhuri inaugurated the rally. The main programme was held at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan after Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurating the programme. Besides, Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik delivered the welcome speech of the programme. 350 representatives from 8 North Eastern states have participated in the festival. Train on new Assam BG line carries Benga | GUWAHATI / AGARTALA, March 28 (TIWN): Assam's underdeveloped Barak Valley was brought on the broad gauge rail map on Friday, with the inaugural goods train carrying about 2,300 tonnes of potatoes from West Bengal.Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the landmark Lumding-Silchar line by flagging off the goods train over video-conference from New Delhi, bringing cheers in the valley, officials said. The Lumding-Silchar connection is a milestone in the northeast region and one of the largest gauge conversion projects of Indian Railways. It cost Rs.3,500 crore. Passenger train services on this 210-km route will start soon.Northeast Frontier Railway spokesman S. Tripura to get two more National Highway | AGARTALA, March 28 (TIWN): Tripura will get two more National Highways. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) had already sanctioned the amount needed for the Construction of Highways. Accordingly the Public Works Department (PWD) of Tripura invites E-tender which should be based upon the detailed project report. It is estimated that nearly 700 crore should be required for the completion for the work. The last date for submission of tender is April 22.In the meantime, among the two National Highways, the 1st one which runs from Kumarghat-Kailasahar-Khowai-Teliamura with al length of 157.70 km is named as 208 National Highway and the 2nd one is named as 108-A to run from Sabroom-Kukitol via Amarpur, Teliamura, Khowai, Kamalpur , Kailasahar and Dharmanagar with a length of 22.90 km. Railway Minister flags off the first goo | AGARTALA, March 28 (TIWN): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday flagged off the first goods train from Lumding to Silchar through video conferencing at a function in New Delhi. Mr. Prabhu said That “this is a momentous occasion†and also added that his ministry is giving special thrust for better rail connectivity in North Eastern states.On Friday, at 12.30 p.m the train moved from Lumbing to Salcharpara(one station ahead of Silchar), where the dock line for Goods Train were being laid. NFR Sources informed that the train would reach the destination within 5-6 hrs.Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working on schedule to bring Agartala under the country’s Broad Gauge Network by March 2016. However releasing the candidate lists today CPI (M) State Secretary Bijan Dhar appealed the ADC voters to maintain peace and harmony at the ADC areas especially during the election.
