AGARTALA, March 31 (TIWN): The repeated demands for converting the Dharmanagar-Ambassa road to double lane are yet under negligence by the state government. The Dharmanagar-Ambassa road is the main entrance of Dharmanagar. The said road connects Dharmanagar with National Highway 44. The road is one of the most important and busy road.
The Dharmanagar ITI is located by the road side at Ganganagar. Indian Oil and Assam Oil depot is located on both side of the road. Besides, Dharmanagar Railway Station, Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), FCI godown and others are located at the entrance of Dharmanagar via this road. Hence, the road is one of the important roads of North district. Besides, the vehicles that comes to Dharmanagar from Guwahati, Shillong, Assam, Agartala and other parts of the state, have to avail Dharmanagar-Bagbasha road via Assam-Agartala National Highway.
It is mentionable here that the importance of the road will increase with the reaching of Broad Gauge in the state. Hence, demands were placed for several times to convert the road into double lane and to renovate it. PWD Minister in 2014 declared that the Dharmanagar-Bagbasha road would be converted to double lane. Among the 8 district headquarters in the state, the National Highway passed through all the 7 district headquarters except Dharmanagar. Despite the declaration, the government has not taken any initiative to broaden the said road till date. People demanded to start the conversion work of the road into double lane soon as the road plays a vital role in the development of Dharmanagar.
Also, they demanded to place divider between both sides of the road, to install street light and construct footpath that would increase the beauty of the city.
